Just thinking out loud here,
comparing the quality of a small number of boutique shop builds to cars built in the mid 60's when the quality controls were much poorer
it would seem Ford did pretty good when the initial sales volume estimate was perhaps 25,000~50,000 units /yr, and they ended up making over 1/2 million 65's.
I'm not making a comment on the continuation cars specifically, but just that when you're challenged to stretch any production program that far beyond forecast
you usually see all kinds of quality spills, i.e. recalls, fixes, field service bulletins. I know the expectations of the consumer was quite different then,
but all-in-all they built 1.167 M 65/66 cars that with Chuck Cantwell & crew's mods handed Corvette's lunch to them !
Not bad for a "silly secretary's re-skin'd Falcon" !
