I believe the continuation cars have value because they have Shelby's actual paw prints on them.  With enough passage of time, fewer people will care whether it came out of the 80s or 60s.  (Maybe they will).  But it's like the Viking sword called the Ulfberht.  There were replicas made of the Ulfberht by artisans in the 9th and 10 centuries right around the time as the original (old habits die hard don't they), not the same quality of steel but they are just as revered as valuable artifacts due to how old they have become.

But who knows ultimately what future generations will think of the continuation convertibles.  If they last that long and don't end up a big pile of iron oxide again by negligent owners.

        Time for reality's ugly head to appear. The fairy tale is that CS was deeply involved with the 12 continuation convertibles. Reality is as soon as the photos were done , he made sure they knew where to send the checks ( and cars to his kids)  and was "out a there". The cars sold poorly and the quality wasn't maintained ( well IMHO).

I remember seeing the one that apparently belonged to Carroll at the Imperial Palace display and later at the old Shelby Museum in Las Vegas and thought the quality of the paint finish was pretty marginal.....

One of the previous owners of my 66 GT350 worked at Beverly Hills Mustang as a lot boy and was pulled in to help with Mustang rebuilds.  He always said that he would never own one as the work was rushed and of very poor quality.  I remember the blue one that was in the  CS Gardena Goodyear lobby back in the late 1980s.  It belongs to one of CS' sons, I believe.  The overspray was insane, carpet rippled, seats misaligned and all kinds of other boo-boos.  They also ran poorly with their multi-spark ignition (do not recall which brand). 8)

That's disappointing. I did not know that back story on those cars. I was a teenager young and impressionable when I read in a car magazine that Shelby was doing a continuation run. I distinctly remember the photo spread with Carrol in the pics.  Thanks for the story behind the story. Given the forgoing I would have to agree.

Wow.  That IS disappointing...not that I was interested, personally. 

It stinks when you come away from situations supremely underwhelmed.   :(

Just thinking out loud here,
comparing the quality of a small number of boutique shop builds to cars built in the mid 60's when the quality controls were much poorer
it would seem Ford did pretty good when the initial sales volume estimate was perhaps 25,000~50,000 units /yr, and they ended up making over 1/2 million 65's.

I'm not making a comment on the continuation cars specifically, but just that when you're challenged to stretch any production program that far beyond forecast
you usually see all kinds of quality spills, i.e. recalls, fixes, field service bulletins. I know the expectations of the consumer was quite different then,
but all-in-all they built 1.167 M 65/66 cars that with Chuck Cantwell & crew's mods handed Corvette's lunch to them !
Not bad for a "silly secretary's re-skin'd Falcon" !
