In the 1940s- 1950s in So Cal they were called a BRODIE KNOB, for a quick turn with a little tire squealing. A real coolness factor if you had one.

     We had a '59 Ford wagon made into a "Ranchero" with what we in these parts at that time just called a "Speed-Handle" or "Speed-Knob"
