Reading the ebay ad and looking at the pictures closely, frankly, leaves me confused on where the smoking hot deal is.
Nice upper end driver quality 67/350/4spd cars (cars which are restored with respectable levels of condition, workmanship, and originality...but NOT concours cars) currently trade (in general) for between 115-155. It is a wide range that varies based on options, color, originality, history etc etc etc.
The car in question at 84k seems to be a fair deal for someone if that person is planning to keep the car the way it currently is, drive it, and not worry about it. But I could easily make the argument that the price paid is extremely strong if that person intends to bring the car up to the sort of condition which would justify the price range of a "nice driver" quality car discussed above. The buyer would probably spend twice the value difference between the purchase price and the end value to get the car to that level. And then youd still be left with a lime/NOM car. Not disrespect to the car but it is what it is.
The only difference in the market this year vs years past is that really good cars are getting even more difficult year over year to find. From my experience over the last year or so, the market has been pretty darn steady and strong.
Kind regards,
Vern
