289 Cobras stamped VIN # 427 Cobras NOT Stamped

The 289 Cobras & 427 Cobras are done differently on their plates  289 Stamped.  427 Etched??. Any particular reason why ??

The story is shown in the 2008 Registry. Briefly, 289's had footbox tags after CSX2200. AC stamped the CSX number and SA stamped the engine number. These same tags were used on the 427 narrow hip cars with AC stamping the CSX #. Two additional tag were used for 427 cars. The first one used on comp & SC cars and some street cars was hand-engraved by SA with the chassis number. The last plate was the coiled snake version and  was usually hand stamped by SA.
