1967 Shelby spare tire size
« on: October 08, 2019, 02:56:42 PM »
hi all,
This may have been asked before ,sorry to repeat the question
but the current spare in my 67 is just jammed into place so much
so that the previous owner just left it flat.  Is there a size you have
found for a 10 spoke wheel that can fit a little better and include air?
Thanks .
Dave

Good question.  Does your car have a flat tail panel or is it raised?  Flat tail panel (earlier) cars usually have less room for the spare.

I used to have a double digit 67, and I had to leave most of the air out of my spare to make it fit, and that was with the correct sized raised letter Goodyear.

My E70x15 Goodyear wide trend fits fine.

To make life easier, I'll drop the trap door and slide the spare into position from the back seat.

That’s actually a great idea! I never thought about going through the trap door to get it in my place. Thanks!

215's are a challenge to fit in there, but, it will fit in there.  A little more difficult than a Speedway 350.  This is with an early car with the deeper tail light box.
This might be the place to drop a repop Speedway 350, just for looks.  The repop fits, and is a good "betweener" from your road tires and an original 350.

Nic's (1690) idea is pretty good too.

I have a repo Speedway 350 mounted on a Magstar for #2339.  It fits fine and is inflated to 28 lbs.

Later car with the revised tail light components = more room (and the reason that made the changes to the parts)

You are correct.  Would be nice to know the car number.

My car is a late 67 , the current spare is 215 70R15
I may have to go with the repo speedway 350 but was
hoping to find a Goodyear alternative not quite as pricey .
Even though we do drive the car quite a bit it may never see the ground.
thanks for the suggestions so far.

I have seen this issue as a cosmetic one since I bought the car on April 4, 1972. It's mostly useless so I took it out and put my battery back there. Problem solved. I haven't needed a spare in all of these years.  8)

You might check a conversion chart to see what is close to an E70-15.  Maybe a 205 R70 15 might work.

I believe you're right, Greek.  The size you quoted below is the closest to the original size from what I understand.
