Question about date codes on BJ BK carbs

Hey everyone,

Bob Gaines and I were discussing date codes on BJ BK carbs for 67 GT500s.  Bob feels and I agree that the carb dates are usually around three months prior to the engine assembly date.  So I am curious if any of you guys with 67 GT500s built at Ford in the month of January 67 can tell me what your carb dates are if you know the carbs are original to your car.  I have two GT500s, one car built 1/03/67 and the other built 1/31/67.  I do not know the assembly dates of the engines but both blocks were cast in November 66 (code "L").

Thanks for any feedback

Chad

Hi Chad,
       I am repeating what I have heard a number of times on this forum and that is, the BJ/BK carbs were manufactured in batches and not on a continuous day-in, day-out basis.

I have had two sets of carbs and here are the dates:

Set #1
BK = 715
BJ = 721

Set #2
BK = 6B1
BJ = 6B2

         I would think that if it is fact that Holley built these in batches, the carb dates could be several months different from the date the engine was assembled. These are just my thoughts and I'm sure others will chime in.

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the information!!  Do you know when the cars were built at ford for those carbs that you listed?

Thanks
Chad

Set #2
BK = 6B1
BJ = 6B2

Jeff

So how do the first set dates decode?

I assume the Set 2 dates are February 1st & 2nd 1966?

Like this (I think)...

Set #1
BK = 715 - 1967, January, 5th week (there was a 5th week in 67, Mon & Tues)
BJ = 721 - 1967, February, 1st week

Set #2
BK = 6B1 - 1966, December, 1st week
BJ = 6B2 -  1966, December, 2nd week

Here is an excellent explanation of Holley date codes from this forum (thanks to Dan Case):

I have List 2804 and 2805 carbs. According to the link JWH posted these are assembly line correct for '67 GT500's (as opposed to service replacements).

Thing is the Holley dates are during the 9 weeks between the SJ completion date and the LAX completion date.

Think they may have changed out at SAI?

Chad

Thank you everyone for your information. It has been very helpful!    Now if anyone has any carbs dated 601 or earlier I would be interested in purchasing them!

Thanks
Chad
