That's just plain silly! Electric motors have full power and torque from 1 RPM on up. It seems to me that it's absolutely ridiculous to put any kind of gearbox in it.

Agreed, but since they experienced an outrage with the new GT500 (currently only available with an automatic) they wanted to appease the masses. Think they missed the boat here, should have been reversed.
