My wife and I will be taking a long over due trip overseas next year and want to at least try to converse in the local language. What are some of the best foreign language programs for basic, conversational speech these days. Used to see Rosetta Stone in all of the airports, but have also heard of Babble. Any others I should consider? I have roughly 4 months to dive in to my goal before we actually need it. Curious to hear what others have used and what type of success they had.

Thanks in advance

At this point, I think an electronic translation device might be a good option

I have no experience with Rosetta or Babble, but have heard Babble is the easier program to apply and use. Another option is to use your phone as your personal translator using an app. which translates English into the desired language. Some app's. even translate signs/menus, etc by simply holding your phone up to it.

I use Google translate for German but I am somewhat conversant in the language already. Don't know if it has a pronunciation function. But the translation seems to be fairly accurate most of the time.

Small block eight so live she feels
There she's parked beside the curb
Engine revving to disturb
She's the princess from his past
Red paint gold stripes damned she's fast"

I've got a few months to brush up, also 3 years of courses 40 years ago, so rusty, forgotten, but not totally starting from scratch at this point.

Try do learn a few phases and words but in general, especially if visiting a number of countries, I don't give it much focus.  English is spoken by such a great number of people unless your traveling to somewhat remote areas of Asia or middle of Africa we haven't had a loot of difficultly . Not going to purchase or carry an electronic leash just so I can order a drink or lunch. We'll figure it out like we did a few decades ago just like many do when they visit or live this country
