I went easy on this one in the registry. A very good friend (owner of CSX 2099 and a classmate/ friend of the then-owner of 2450) and I spent a week in Fairfield, Iowa looking for this car back in the '80s. By which I mean, hiring a local backhoe and operator to dig up the premises where the garage in which it burned used to be located. We found all sorts of rusted, twisted metal, but given that the cars were burned and then buried in a damp area, very little that was identifiable could be found. There certainly were NO remains of CSX 2450, which as stated in the registry, had been sufficiently hot in the shop fire that the frame rails actually bent. Which rendered the car junk. Which allowed its owner to get an insurance payout. Which meant the bulldozer operator who interred the mess had no reason to go easy on the metallic trash he was burying. I can state unequivocally that CSX 2450 is history, and the clown in France claiming to have it is lying. It's that simple.
