Open letter valve covers used in all of 65 and part of 66 . Closed letter used mid 66 -70 Shelby. Also be aware of the differences between assembyline solid letter valve covers and the various evolution of differences on the Ford service valve covers . Of course there are almost as many differences between the repros valve covers too. That is if Factory original looking is your goal.

IIRC, S2MS ran a survey a little while on the 66 GT350 valve covers.  I believe in this 2.0.

Dave, I could not find.  Can you post the link?

Thanks

Hi Cory,

You're thinking of the 66 GT350 intake survey.

All the 66-70 OE solid letter covers are the "fanged" version  which were available from Ford at least until 1975. Not sure when the "defanged" version became available but I've seen NOS sets in boxes dated 1975.

Hi Dave,

Yes, there is the intake survey, but I swear there is a valve cover survey.  Sounds like you did not author that survey.  I remember working on the valve cover survey and reducing the input from the members into an EXCEL file.  I had sorted by engine assembly date and by SAI VIN.  You could really see the pattern on the engine assembly dates.   I will check my home computer tonight.

Thanks

Cory

Not sure if it was a survey or just a listing of known valve cover types by 66 GT 350 car number.  I recall contributing my info to it and not sure but I think it was Jeff Speegle who owned the list.

I found it.  Time sure flies.  The file is dated 2-26-17.  It has been awhile.  I might be missing one update from the last inputs, but if sure looks like the switch from the Buddy Bar Hollow COBRA to the die cast solid COBRA was circa late February 1966.  The SAI VIN 1855 is mostly likely a swap by a previous owner and is not OEM to the car.  Just a guess.  Does any one have new info?  The engine assembly date is the better tracker for ID'ing the switch.

Enjoy

Cory
