Wanted to put together some photos and some quick descriptions on the versions of original trunk mats that are out there and show the differences.  Had some time last month with David Davis, Jack Brooks, and Jim Woods to lay these all out and come up with what we think is correct based on notes we have and cars these came out of.  If anyone has any additional comments would like to hear or compare with original trunk mats in cars that we know are correct.

For 1969/1970 came up with these six versions.  The main difference is cars with CA emissions had a larger size cut hole in the trunk mat to accommodate the larger filler neck, otherwise there would only be three versions:

1969/1970 Non Fold Down Seat
1969/1970 Fold Down Seat
1969/1970 Coupe convertible

1970 Non Fold Down Seat - CA Emissions
1970 Fold Down Seat - CA Emissions
1970 Coupe/Convertible - CA Emissions

Could have been used/installed on a 70 Shelby that was sent to California originally. Likely not since they often have a wear shadow where the plastic ducting in located and where luggage and stuff rolling around in the trunk would have damaged the mat but that type of mat would be what was typically installed on both Calif and non-Calif delivered cars from the unrestored cars I've seen and have pictures of

For other viewers there were three different trunk mat shapes used in 69/70 production at Dearborn

If anyone has a picture of the underlayment for the California emissions cars it would be helpful. Getting the mat to fit over the fuel tank ducting is problematic.

I was assuming the underlayment Was placed is such a way it would help the trunk mat to lay flatter on the emissions cars. Do these cars must have a very poor trunk mat appearance?

The underlayment as shown did help with reducing the stronger edges that would be next to the mat. But yes the mats didn't fit well and some owners traced around the bulge but then the underlayment was exposed to luggage and other things rolling around the trunk
