Will a 302 4spd bellhousing work on a 351 w or is 351 specific

Royce Peterson

All bellhousings that fit either will fit either. Pay attention to flywheel and starters because they can be application specific.

302 and 351w or 351c will fit each other. But you have to make sure you use the correct flywheel with whatever bellhousing you pick. Some fit 157 some fit 164. 6 bolt 289 will also work but might have a t-10 bolt pattern.

Exactly. All will fit any.

But there are specific flywheels and starters and imbalance factors for flywheels. If for example you use a 164 tooth 28 oz imbalance flywheel you need to use a starter for that specific application, whatever it might be. Just because any flywheel will bolt up to any of these engines doesn't mean it will be compatible. 302 balance factor varied at least three different ways that I am aware of. From what I know all 351C and 351W are 28 oz imbalance. You don't want it to shake when you are done.

Thanks, that is what I thought, I have a 164 tooth bellhousing, I will buy a 28oz  flywheel for 11" clutch, I am converting a 69 mach 1 automatic to a 4spd , will the automatic starter work with the 4spd, like the FE, or are there 2 different starters, thanks again

If using a period O.E.M. 164 tooth application bell housing.........NO!  Bolt pattern is the same but starter gear position and nose housing length/depth is different.       ;)
