Title: Fuel Line Fitting
Post by: Greg on April 25, 2020, 09:27:08 PM
Hello, any ideas on where I can find this fitting.  It is the carburetor inlet to fuel line connection.

Thank you.

My first thought would be Carls Ford Parts. Although not listed on his website it would be worth the time to call and check.

If this is the fitting you require, Jim Cowles may have one.

Cheers,

Forgot to say this fitting is for the 66 to be clear and not get in trouble! :)

JD, too quick on the draw this time. Not that I am above making mistakes but this is the 65 section and the OP is not Kingchief . The OP is Greg who has a 65.

The fitting from fuel pump to carb is part of the line, an assembly.  Here's one source: http://www.cobranda.com/19shfulio.html

Thanks for the response.  I'm not looking for the line but the fitting that the line fitting screws into.  The line doesn't screw directly into the carb.

Bob, that's the fuel line clip.  Greg is looking for the brass fitting that goes into the carb and receives the fitting on the end of the fuel line that I gave him.  It's a smaller version of the big one that goes on the '66 because the '66 receives the fuel filter, not just the fuel line fitting.  I haven't a clue as to the source of that adapter might be.

Randy-Not for me, as there is one on 071 but, for the sake of posterity, can you share any information that would identify this part?  If not a part number, perhaps you could determine the external thread that goes into the carb and the internal thread that receives the fuel line fitting?

The male end is 1/8th pipe thread( tapered) the other takes a 5/16ths flared tube end. It is actually a common fitting .

+1. I actually bought at a hardware store, to add to Randy's comments the internal thread that receives the fuel line fitting is 1/2"-20.

To add- the original ones many times had the metal stamp of the " W" mfg trademark for Weatherhead .

My "lightbulb" just switched "on".  If I'm not mistaken, the same fittings are used in the lower tanks of radiators for C-4's to accept the cooling lines.

The fitting that is used in the carburetor is probably brass (?) whereas the fittings that are installed in the radiator (from the factory) are steel-you know, the rusty ones.

The transmission cooler fittings that I was referring to are on a "66 radiator which look EXACTLY like the pictured fitting. The factory fittings that I have in my radiator are steel (or extremely magnetic brass).

OldGuy is right.  They look the same but the radiator ones are steel.  The radiator tanks are brass but the fittings are steel. Hmmmmm.

There are plenty of radiators with brass fittings too. Agreed that "assembly line correct" trans fittings were steel. I have owned one or two 3259s with a steel fitting ( replaced) in them as they were rusty.

I believe countless Ford O.E. mechanical fuel pumps used this 87972-S Ford part in the 1950s and early 1960s. Looks to be the same as 1962-64 Fairlane parts. None of my used originals from fuel pumps have maker's logos and I don't remember a logo on the fitting in the carburetor on our black car's engine.

A "COBRA" induction kit was ordered and installed by his local 'Shelby dealer' on our black car by the second owner in the 1960s.

After a quick search of that number several vendors sell functional replacements at low cost but all the pictures I saw show parts with modern "EATON" name stamps on a flat.

Dan I agree not all had the w trademark that is why I said some . Just my observations . Eaton bought/absorbed weatherhead at some point.
