Wow, unless you were desperate to sell a car at this time was just crazy - buyer scored !
-
No, someone paid market price. It took 2 people to dictate the price. The price was what 2 people were willing to pay for it. Last year I bid up to 80K for my old 67 GT350, someone got it for 82K, that was market value. I did not want it for any more that what I bid up to.

Excellent point and lets see where the year ends with all the current affairs and surprises

Ignoring the current nonsense going on in the country (the number of people out of work, cities burning, stock market slump and slow rebound etc) made for a bad time for the seller and a good time for the buyer. sour grapes and a sad life shouldn't stop congrats on a good purchase/deal..
-
Seemed like a great deal to me.
Probably around $20,000 not paid to a big auction house for one thing. ::)

And isn't there still a Buyer's premium paid on Bring a Trailer?

From the BAT website
Seller
. The best place to sell a collector vehicle, period. $99 to list, no other fees for the seller, and a custom auction for your vehicle on our site.
Buyer
How much is the buyer's fee? If you win an auction we charge 5% of the final bid price on top of the winning bid, with a minimum fee of $250 up to $5,000 (5% of a $100,000 bid). The fee for sales higher than $100,000 is capped at $5,000.

with the modifications on it i don't think it so low in curent market ..?

We think it really did well, here are some values from early this year. With everything that's going on we truly think these early values have tanked possibly 20-30%. But remember all that goes down will eventually go up...

Hello friend,
What car did they sell?
Was it a 65/66?
No, this was/is a 69 GT350 and those where the prices earlier this year for a 69 GT350, when the situation was normalized or as close to it.
The 65/66/67 are in a class of their own.

Tell that to the Model T and Model A owners for example ::)

Great point, that is a finite market that tanked and will not be resurrected in our life time. Hmmmmm......:(

Correct, I was comparing values for 65-67 that are pretty recession proof vs 68 up.

It appears that the SAAC forum is filled with lots of very unhappy passive aggressive trolls - The guy got a good deal on that Hertz car - No wonder lots of people hate this forum now - it's all Debbie Downer all the time here.

My post what just a remark on the value , telling in my opinion ,it's not so much out off the range of value for a 66 in this condition, now if this making me a
"very unhappy passive aggressive trolls" in your book , it does not in mine.

The market is what the market is. I am glad they are coming down, remember its a fun hobby.
-
Good morning!
No you are so wrong, we in Florida are probably the most happy go lucky bunch of folks that you will ever meet.
Well maybe not you.
All we stated as other have on this forum is that it was a decent transaction for both parties.
That the market is tanked due to the current situations covid 19, civil unrest, stock market, etc. But in the end we mentioned that it should bounce back
Well got to go, boats running, to the water and beyond.
P.S. follow our daily inspirational quotes at FL SAAC and have a great day, adios!

Sir, you have been the most Debbie Downer of anyone I have seen on this site in some time. Be part of the solution not the problem, your comment above wasn't necessary unless you just want to stir the pot.
How about you starting the positive vibe that you say is needed.

Thank you for notifying us with your concern.
We have turned it over to our concern commity.
They will be actively dissecting the situation and soon will respond to your enquiry.
Again thank you for contacting us!

Here we go again.... that didn't take long ::)

Well, I still think a white with gold Hertz is a good deal when grabbed for under $115.

No doubt about that.

replacement 289ci V8 paired with a Tremec five-speed and a 30 year old "refurbishment". Bought for fair market value.
-
Only interest that I have in this deal is that the new owner become a member of SAAC, if he already is not a member, and that he and the car come to SAAC events to meet, greet and show. The rest is a private sale and hope both buyer and seller are happy. Not my monkey, not my circus. 8)

To give some real world color on the price I paid more than that for my 1966 GT350 in January of this year. I looked at a dozen GT350's before I made my selection and everything in the $100,000 range was a hard pass for me. At about $125,000 I was finding the car(s) that I was looking for and then the next level was to jump to something truly concours and restored to the "book" which is where I eventually ended up. Although the world has obviously changed since then, and prices certainly have been impacted, my view is that every car really stands on its own in terms of price and the desire of the buyer. For me I wanted one which was truly a concours car, a fresh restoration and restored by someone who did it correctly and not just pretty. Car 889 that I purchased had been to SAAC and done well in the judging which certainly gives it extra provenance and maybe some extra bucks in value -- who knows? The car also had great paperwork and a day one photo along with cool history. I never saw this Hertz but looking at the pics it would not be concours in my grading -- it was an excellent driver. I think the price, with a $5000 buyer's premium, at 20% less than I paid was a correct retail price.

This is an intelligent response. Thank you for that.
It would seem that in every group there is always one that is a miserable SOB and just loves to pass that on to others by sharing it. This forum is no different.
They aren't exactly trolls by definition, just kind of like"Johnny Appleseed", who just like to travel and spread their seed of misery thinking that we all here are just as miserable as they are?
The answer is no we aren't and if they had half a brain, they'd be dangerous? As the saying goes, you just can't fix stupid and here's the kicker, they will agree to that and are just too stupid to realize that we are talking about them?
Seeing eye dogs can go just so far? ::)
-
Nobody can argue with real world results, and I am not. But I believe color plays a big role.
I paid a premium to have a not-red FGT. A Premium to have a not-red GT500 and would expect to pay some premium to have a not-red GT350 (i.e. White with Gold).
Tho just a driver, I think this was one of the more rare and desirable color combinations.
Just my opinion and personal experience.

With the new changes to the forum these perpetrators will be more obvious to the forum at large.
I have always welcomed and appreciated others opinions about this hobby. I can do without the incessant "look at me" posts that have proliferated the forum since the crash.
Too bad there are some immature individuals rushing in here intoxicated with the power of the keyboard trying to steal the conversation and firing shots at the innocent.
IF YOU SEE A POST THAT ATTEMPTS TO START AND ARGUMENT, REPORT IT TO THE MODERATOR.
Only if we come together can we make this a better forum.

Not sure if your comment was directed at me, but I am one of the happiest people on the planet! We are fleeing New York, which makes me happy! All my cars are in good order, which makes me happy! For us the stock market is doing well, thank you EJ! It looks like I will not be called back to work, but I was only working for fun anyway, that makes me lucky and happy! I drove my under 100K GT350 yesterday, which makes me happy...And yes I am very happy that cars are coming down in price! The only thing that is "sad" is people are "sheep" that bugs me....LOL

Hey! My wife's name is Debbie, and she is no downer!!! LOL
I am happy for the new owner, him and another person bid what they were willing to pay.....
Just think if ebay had no reserve and people had to start every auction out at 1.00 opening bid....Just think how much better may would be if it were not a "Buy it now" show of RE-LISTVILLE....

I think the buyer got a real good deal at $116,000, including commissions, and I think the seller got a real good deal cause he walked away with $111,000 less the small listing fee.
If this car was at BJ, Mecum or one of the other big auction houses and it hammered for $111,000 the buyer would be in for over $120k and the seller would get around $100k. Only the auction house would have come out smelling like a rose.
The BAT sale of this car was a win for both buyer and seller.
Having said all that, I have been "enlightened" by several SAAC members that this BAT sale is conditional on all parties holding up their end of the deal. Otherwise it is just a load of sh!t. :o

I love deals and I hope there are many more! Apparently only two people were willing to go that high, and that seemed to disappoint some people? A Shelby is a Shelby with or without the motor or a transmission. It is nice to see things selling and moving. My hope is not for them to be a SAAC member but to enjoy and have fun with the car. Its a hobby.
-
Excellent points made by all. In the end the transaction truly only matters to the buyer and seller. Let's wish them well !
Not to get off track but we do have an outstanding thread going and felt many can benefit from it. Wishing all a day of peace, love and happiness

Me thinking it was a good deal for the buyer isn't the the same as being disappointed it didn't sell for more.

I am the guy who bought this car on BringaTrailer.
I enjoyed reading the posts regarding the buying process and everyone's valuation of the car.
I'm a long time collector car enthusiast (almost 72 years old) and have owned many cool cars during my lifetime.
Buying, restoring or tidying up, keeping for a few years and then selling to buy the next one is my usual style.
I've bought several cars during my lifetime sight unseen and I have always been disappointed.
Then this one popped up and really caught my attention.
White with gold stripes, somewhat a limited color (50-56 depending on who you believe, somewhat modified, a nice driver with a Tremec 5 spd.
I have several nice driver cars and several show cars.
The show cars sit and get looked at and I didn't want another one of those.
What gave me the confidence to bid and buy without seeing the car?
The SAAC Registry with history from new.
I contacted several prominent previous owners and collected some history.
Most of it was good.
High end restoration 29 years ago with mostly NOS parts at the time.
Displayed at The Quail was a plus.
On the bottom right side cover of the SAAC Registry helped.
So what did I get?
Well, I am happy to say I was far from disappointed and more than happy.
Better than I every thought it would be.
The car looks like it was restored and painted about 5-6 years ago...that good.
29 year old restoration but only about 5k miles since 1991.
Most of the weatherstripping had seen better days but is already replaced.
Delivered with original C4 C Servo transmission, all the lines, flex plate, torque converter, bell housing, floor shifter and linkage, nuts and bolts packaged up, even the plastic speedometer gear.
Also five original chrome Magnum wheels that according to the seller needed replated but look very nice and presentable to me.
Incorrect dealer supplied wood steering wheel that I love.
Incorrect (for a Hertz car) real deal 10 spoke wheels bought from Paradise Wheels.
Several other incorrect parts, most easy to replace with a correct Mustang or K-code part.
A few not so easy or cheap, standard Mustang distributor (with a Pertronics) and standard water pump but all the rest real deal Shelby and K-Code parts.
And YES, I joined SAAC and have already learned more about my cars history from people like Howard Pardee than I could have ever imagined.
Good bye 356 Registry, good bye PCA, Hello SAAC.

Congratulations and welcome to SAAC!

Based on the information published about this car, the buyer got a real good deal. He/she can enjoy it as it is or can elect to change out the wheels, trans, etc. to make it correct and still not be upside down.
-
The nicest things about this to me are that 1) the car was accurately represented, and 2) the buyer is happy! The older I get the harder that seems to be . .. and if anything makes me happy when I am 71, I'll be, well . . . HAPPY!!! So congrats to both buyer and seller for avoiding commissions and making a great deal. When I bought 6S598 I knew that quality costs, and it does, for a little while . . . As the tattoo says, though, "No Regerts."
The deal that maybe concerns me more is Hearst's acquisition of BAT. . . . I am afraid in a few years it won't be the same addiction we know and love . . .

At least it wasn't acquired by Dana Mecum or Craig Jackson.

Hi Smiley48,
Congratulations again on your purchase and on joining SAAC. We communicated through BAT regarding your purchase ("Craig_S") and as a long term owner of an early driver quality '66 with a 5 speed, I know you'll enjoy your car. Coincidentally, Craig Conley, who was mentioned regarding your car on BAT, and who is a great resource for all things Shelby, is now vintage racing a white with gold stripe '66, which, like yours, looks great!
Cheers!
