Saw this Mustang in Edinburgh Scotland when I was there in January. I loved the American flag and the three models of Mustangs in the back window.

Corey we find that most Europeans, better yet the world shares a very strong passion for everything Mustang, Shelby, Corvette and all American memorabilia USA, USA, USA!

My wife and I travel abroad a fare amount (the company she works for is based out of the Netherlands), Paris is one of our/my favorite places. I never get tired of going there. We were shopping and walking from Avenue de l'Opera heading back to our hotel we got onto Rue de la Paix towards Vendome and saw this black 66 coupe with red stripes, Cragers and a reversed mounted (GT350) hood scoop pull up and double park. Mustang in Paris? How cool was that. The guy had a suit on, jumped out and ran into a building. Cops left it alone...go figure?
Cheers,

I flew down to Santiago Chile with a buddy in the mid 1970's, 1976 I think. with the intentions of hitchhiking back up the Andes to Colombia. We got about 40 miles from the city center and were having some cervasas at hole in the wall outdoor bar when we spied a beat up '66 Mustang across the highway. One thing led to another and we bought the car for a few hundred dollars. It turned out to be a K code, bu we didn't even find that out until much later, but it was totally clapped out; dents in every body panel, trunk with a punched out lock and was held down bare wire. And the de rigor passenger door in a different color . The engine was still sounding good so we went for it.
My pal was zoned the whole time on mushrooms, so all the driving fell to me. The car ran perfectly despite the Radial changes in elevation, and never had any mechanical trouble other than about 30 flat tires.
I've got million stories about the trip, but they aren't car related.. This was about 10 years after the Mustang first came out, and we saw lots of them. They were the most common 1960's car that we saw, and ALL of them were in better shape than the one we were driving. We didn't even know it was a K code until we were in a customs check at the Peruvian border. Most of the external K equiptment was long gone by the time we got the car.
I still have a few photos from the trip, but none of the car. Compared to the other Mustangs we saw, it was not very photogenic. I'm lucky to have any photos, as documenting my life in photos was a non-priority in the 1960's / 1970's.

yeah, a really lousy introduction, I was kidnapped two years later by the FARC, and held for 3 months. Was forced to carry munitions most of the time. They turned me over to the M-19 who released me once it became clear nobody wanted to pay a ransom for me. Kidnapping used to be a big business there.
The FARC battalion that held me came under fire 6 times by the Colombian army using USA surplus Huey gunships. I can tell you that being on the receiving end of a Huey is no picnic.

PS. Most dangerous momemt of driving that Mustang in SA : in a blinding rainstorm I ran over this farmers burro. He put about 40 machete wacks in that car until my bad Spanish got him calmed down and we paid him like $35 for the burro. Otherwise people were really really nice to us.

We have both the 69 & 70 428 R-code cj verts here now from london area but we had to ship the 70 Bond car from norway ( thanks to john b. here who lives in norway & has a 70 R-code pace car vert) but that car was exported to london when new for james bond director & painted red over the green with green interior & this car was loaded with all options including export package. The car was ordered july 69 but wasnt built till feb 70.

Thanks transamed for the john bakke photo taken before we sent the car back to usa. We got 2 overseas car magazine storys about this car (cobra in london) & (shaken not stirren) written years ago & all the cars london registrations & maintenance bills back to 1974 in maurice binders name (james bond stunt man) as harry saltzman (james bond producer) gave the car to the stuntman in 74. Steven (harrys son) saltzman confirmed this was his dads car & steven owns an exotic car co. in monoco. We dont know exactly what purpose this rare ci vert was used for only that it had a monroe suspension leveling system & microphone cord routed under the console & extra belt holes added on rear seat side panels & other odd features added. My guess being a fast convertible it may have been used for a camera car. The diamonds are forever movie car was a 72 red mustang & this car was painted red over factory green so was it going to be the movie car but being a convertible not a safe stunt car but a early mustang vert was used in goldfinger movie i think or some purpose.
-
did someone say red mustang....bond james, bond...

Following all these european Mustangs since 26 years with our network of club editor mates and many enthusiastic contributors in Europe... yes, we do have some "foreign" and even locally assembled Mustangs (VIN ANO...) over here, I guess around 5-6000 64-73 in total left or imported. The more interesting ones are certainly up north where they ended up during the oil crisis years, when others could not afford them anymore in the rest of Europe.
I happen to have the pics and articles from John from back then about the Saltzman CJ. Met John 3-4 times I think, last time in Charlotte at the 50th.
The 1971s Mustangs used in Diamonds are Forever were actually min. 5 cars, one 429 and 3 to 4 351 and one 302. The one that was in the UK Cars of the Stars collection is now in the Dezer Collection in FL. There are still some unsolved paperwork and VIN mysteries and claims around them. http://www.ponysite.de/pony/bond.htm
The early white Goldfinger Convertible is another mystery, one person claiming to have it, while other claim it is not and that it was wrecked. http://www.ponysite.de/goldfinger.htm
But back to the topic... ;)
-
TransamEd when that picture was taken of the green cj vert it was missing the front bumper guards wheellip mouldings & black stripe hood 428 lettering & the wheel covers but it still has its original drivetrain & is straight rustfree & i have all missing original parts now. Do u or anybody else know anything about this cars history when it first went to Harry Saltzman exported in march 70. This car went straight to FOMOCO export literage NJ dock & was built late feb 70 but was ordered july 69 when the 70 first came out of which seems very odd & also car was changed to red from original green early on then back to green later in its life & all the mouldings were removed when the color changed to red of which i find odd but car still has all its original all green interior & this loaded vert has 22 options the most i know of for a 70 mustang.

My wife and I were vacationing in South Africa recently and on Friday May 4, we saw a black and gold 66 GT 350H at an intersection in Cape Town. By the time I got my camera out it was gone, so no picture. It looked like a decent driver and potentially real, but who knows. Irrespective, it certainly stood out and was not what we expected to see while there. Maybe the owner is a SAAC member ?

actually nerf bars they were called. I believe back then in the 70s they were used to get into high trucks. Sometimes you have to look thru bad taste to see the beauty of a car when you buy it. I HAD to. That is my old 70 drag pack 4 speed Grabber blue GT500 in the garage and a 69 M-code Mach1 next to my GT350 vert.

Just spotted a new gen.mustang convertible parked by the harbor across the street from our apartment here in San Giuliano mare ,Italy. It was “almost” Hertz colors.Black but the lemans stripes(which strangely were matte finish) and side stripes(with mustang callouts)were tan to match the interior and top.Sounds like a strange combo but actually looked surprisingly cool.Had republic of San Marino plates.Kinda rare to see this sort of car here as fuel is damn expensive......Ciao...

understand, but good or bad its American history
having lived and traveled in the South and Southwest USA most of my life, my observations of and conversations with the "stars and bars" crowd tell me that they are not trying to give a history lesson. But rather are voicing their desires to BRING BACK the days of Jim Crow at the least, and many openly are supportive of the slavery days. Without getting too political, it's no secret to say that the current atmosphere has emboldened the white supremacy extremists to be more vocal and more visible.

Without getting too political, it's no secret to say that the current atmosphere has emboldened the white supremacy extremists to be more vocal and more visible.
Z, Having lived in the south my entire life and having ancestry that fought for the south but never owned slaves I must respectfully disagree with you :)
OK, I'll bite. What message do you think the "stars and bars" crowd are wanting to communicate by displaying their cherished symbol ? ?
Z
-
Z, we dont be long to any group. My reflection is that it represents a time and place in American history. As far as my interpretation of this particular flag is as follows;
This was a battle flag flown by several armies in Virginia.
The particular layout is St Andrew's cross. A symbol that represents freedom and independence. The stars represent the states of the then Confedaracy.
Again a time and place in American history.

In the '70's I met a few celebrity musician racists, some mentioned here, who happened to be from the south.
Not impressed.
....back to the stars & bars, yeah, we respectfully disagree on that.
Z

Comprehend your point of view, but remember racism goes both ways.
Let's get back to that historic flag. First and foremost the Confederate Flag was never a national flag representing the South, it was a battle flag flown by several armies in Virginia. Even if it had been a national flag for the South, understand that the Civil War wasn't just over slavery, while it was the reason slavery ended, it was merely an excuse for the war. The North fought the war over money (the same reason we fight half the wars these days and excuse it by saying we're fighting for another cause. Plain and simple. When the South started Secession, Lincoln was asked, "Why not let the South go in peace?" To which he replied, "I can't let them go. Who would pay for the government?" Sensing total financial ruin for the North, Lincoln waged war on the South. The South fought the War to repel Northern aggression and invasion, because, and yes this is a true stereotype. The Confederate Battle Flag today finds itself in the center of much controversy. The cry to take this flag down is unjustified. It is very important to keep in mind that the Confederate Battle Flag was simply just that. A battle flag. It was never even a National flag, so how could it have flown over a slave nation or represented slavery or racism? This myth is continued by lack of education and ignorance. Those that villify the Confederate Battle Flag are very confused about history and have jumped upon a bandwagon with loose wheels. To touch on another subject, many say that it's a symbol of hate because it was flown over slave ships, and that's false but guess what was? The American flag. Many also say it was the KKKs flag... Google KKK.... You will see them flying the American flag more so than the Confederate Flag. The US flag flew over a slave nation for over 85 years! I'm not saying this to down the American Flag because I love it just the same. I'm simply saying that, if the Confederate Flag should be removed, why not the American Flag?? The North tolerated slavery and acknowledged it as a Division Of Labor. The North made a vast fortune on slavery and it's commodities. It wasn't until the South decided to leave the Union that the North objected. The North knew it could not survive without the Southern money.... And did you know? At the time the War of 1861 -1865 officially commenced, the Southern States were actually in the process of freeing all slaves in the South. Russia had freed it's servants in 1859, and the South took great note of this. Had military intervention not been forced upon the South, a very different America would have been realized then as well as now.
Racism is being projected onto the Confederate Flag, which is in return, continuing the division among us. Just because one racist lunatic supported the confederate flag, doesn't mean every person who supports it is a racist.
The rebel flag to me means home. Southern pride. Wheat fields, sunflower fields, deer hunting, hard work, trucks, racing, family, and pride in where I'm from. Born and raised here and damn proud of it. Ignorance "flies" both ways. An item can not be racist, unless you are an easily offended person, or racist yourself.
Just my opinion.
-
I've heard those arguments all my life. Those arguments didn't reflect my personal observations as a kid growing up with segregated schools in my Oklahoma hometown, and they still don't say anything different today. The stars and bars to me is a racist symbol. And the people I know today that fly it in Oklahoma and Texas are some of the most hardcore white supremacists out there.
Yes, it was the battle flag for a failed government. And today it's rallying symbol today for people that haven't got the news that the war is over, and the south lost.
What this has to do with the topic of Shelby's in foreign lands, I really don't know.

Looks like a Group 4 car but has some inconsistencies with what is stated as original equipment.
Without chassis number identification no one can tell if it is an original factory Group4, a Group3, or a modified from original specs Group 4?
It looks like it does not have the Webers, the Group 4 tail amps and the 180 headers? Those were stock Group 4 specs as far as I know? Other equipment seems to be there though. The wheels, the windows, the flares, the wheels and tires, the roll bar, the rear deck retainers.

This pic was taken at the Belgium Mustang and Cougar Club.
I restored the car in Alabama and shipped it to Belgium when we lived there from 2001-2004. It was a blast driving the car in Europe and to the local car shows. I sold it before returning stateside. The car is a factory raven black GT K code fastback with deluxe white pony interior. Very rare care! The guy pictured with me has cerebral palsy and a big fan of classic mustangs! I took home the first place trophy that day!

Richstang, thanks for the info on the '67 #0156.
I Googled around and found another shot of that white '67 USL car in Japan with the same tag.
I wonder if you can trace the car through the license plate, or maybe some here has a contact in Japan. I believe you can do that in England ?
Just found this, maybe they can help ?

Hey Mike that's amazing you found the front view of the same car!!!
The straight vertical grille would not normally be found on an early USL car, unless the grille was changed.
It also looks like it has the raised taillight panel and the GT stamped valance, two more later features.
No one in my circle of friend speaks Japanese here on the east coast. I looked around your web link, but nothing stood out as helpful.

Looks like a middle eastern tag, could be an "Eleanor" ?

I own my 68 convertible since 1989 and drive it often in his new home Switzerland.
This picture taken at this years trip to the Goodwood Revival in Southern England.
In order to get there we have to drive across France and by a channel ferry to England. We do this every year, the Mustang never let us down.
For ten years I was the proud owner of a 1968 GT350 Shelby. I always wanted to make the trip with the Shelby, but sadly i had to sell it before it happened.

very kool story zray thanks for sharing

Just returned from a couple of weeks in southern Portugal and Spain. While driving around a really neat small town called Ronda about 10 days ago, we drove by a few car carriers full of vehicles that were there for an "American Motor Show' that was happening that weekend. A few monster trucks, some dragster-like vehicles and wouldn't you know - a dark blue Shelby - looks like maybe a 2007 - 2010. Here's a couple of pics. John

I've posted this in another thread here, but thought it applies here as well.
My notes say Peru '66, we see what looks like a 427 Cobra #3, a couple of GT350s, #6 & #7, looks like there is another Mustang two cars behind #7.
I'm not sure how an Austin Healey and a Lotus Super 7 out qualified the Cobra ???

love the path taken !

The plate looks either British or German, but I’m not sure what they looked like at that time.

2112, you might be right, old school cut and paste :-\ the girl on the right in particular looks like she was cut out and placed on the image.
Mike
-
That's what I was thinking when I posted that there were a couple of things wrong with that photo.
Vintage airbrushing to the interior and some of the car's paint, at the very least.
The headlights, though not illuminated, look to have an amber reflective glow like French headlight bulbs.
And yes, the girls look somewhat like cut-outs, but the shadows seem to match up to the car.

Tony, what I meant in my earlier post is that for me anyhow, a lot of the earlier "Photobucket" posts in this thread are blurred.
That is the remains of the Photo bucket hostage efforts of a few years back. There are some browser add-ons that "fix" the issue but there are millions of similar blurred pictures across the internet
Subject was discussed on SAAC ver 1.0 - not sure if it was repeated since the new forum has been up since this all took place before that I think

This '65 ? notch is in France, couple of interesting things here, looks to have '65 GT350 wheels with (fake ?) knock offs.
Did all export Mustangs have that emblem on the fender, behind the wheel, was it T5 ? Also has extra driving lights.

mustangman-nl, thanks for posting, does anyone know who did these and how many were built ?

How does he get to the gas filler with the plate bolted to the rear panel? Not exactly easy fill-ups.
-
Looks like a clip on each side.Bet the plate is “quick release” which could be handy(in more ways than one) ;)

That would make sense. Looked like fasteners in the small photo.
I think he needs the rotating license plate trick like on Bond's Aston. Those letters/numbers are freaking HUGE! A blind cop could see then from a mile away.

Tell you what though, that license plate LIGHT sure is “over engineered “....
Back in day we was not alowed to use this licence plate format. The normal format was 4,3 X 20,5.
You could get a plate in the format of 13,4 X 8,3 if you applied for it. This plate did not always fit a US made car, so you had to modify it a little. This modification was not legal, so you often got a ticket from the police.
Corvette owners had a bigger problem with the front plate!
Licence plate light was mandatory, and if the DMV told you it was not good enough you had to get a bigger and ‘better’ one!
Thing has improved, so now we are alowed to use US plate format.

That koe-type plates has been used between 1972-1986.
I think that picture has been shot in Helsinki at Oy Ford Ab import harbour. Ford had their own cape land and harbour in Helsinki from 1930 till -90'ties

So you where a "tourist" that found a K code in Kolumbia amazing story !

Very nice and beautiful!
How is the old Rotorura neighborhood doing ?

Beautiful area - lots of outdoors stuff to do, great downtown restaurants... Just starting to get into their busier tourist season as the warmer weather is coming back.

Saw this parked across the road from where we are staying today in Nelson NZ. Have also seen several late model Mustang GT's on the roads since we got to New Zealand 12 days ago. Did not expect to trip over as many of these cars over here.

OK, so we all know about the Boss 302 and the Boss 429. Who has heard of the Ford Boss 290? Yes its a real thing, made in Australia about 15 years ago, and this one is parked in our hotel parking lot here in Nelson NZ. See this link for details: https://www.motortrend.com/news/mmfp-0605-ford-fpv-boss-290-gtp/

Nope, don't need to be a Sherlock. Just pointing out what should be obvious to a 2016 GTH owner!

It's hard to believe how many cool cars I've seen in New Zealand the last three weeks. Late this morning my wife suggested we stop for a coffee at this neat looking place called the Wrinkly Rams in a tiny town called Omarama, population 291 in the middle of nowhere. A few minutes after we park in comes 57 high performance cars. Not a club outing. Turns out it's just a bunch of performance car people who have met up over the years and once a year they do a 2 day tour, This weekend its the Damn run - 1,160 kms visiting a bunch of dams and staying overnight at Dunedin. No Mustangs or real Shelbys. Most of the cars were current vintage Porsches, Ferraris, Audis, Mercedes AMGs, Aston Martins, BMWs, a Peugeot, an Alpha Romeo, a couple of Camaros, etc. etc. , a few classics, and these two replicas. Both were built here in New Zealand by different shops in different cities. The GT 40 was built in Dunedin. I think the Cobra owner said his was built in Christchurch. The Cobra had a 302 in it, the GT 40 a 351 W. Best coffee stop I've had in a long time!

The taillight placement on the Maverick wagon looks like they got ready to fire-up the assembly line on those cars, then someone yelled:
"Holy crap, there's no taillights! Quick, grab something from the parts bin and screw them on!"
