Kits are available at VA Mustang and NPD and others. The original color on many of them was grey. I have seen some painted black and some left natural. White Post Restorations rebuilds them and in the process re-sleeves them.

Some early 65 GT350's were gray . Later 65 and all of 66 were painted black to identify the special adjusted C5ZX (Shelby) proportioning valve. None were natural whether on regular Mustang or GT350.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess the natural ones I have seen must have been rebuilt.

Would that be flat or semi-gloss black?

They all appear to be semi-gloss that I've seen. Very popular and available at the time and and might have provided slightly better protection against the rust

where do they tend to leak? mine is pretty dry.
i only notice moisture on the floorpan seam(under car) where paint started to peel. im now starting to think its weeping from a previously bad master cylinder.

Believe they are designed so that when the seal leaks the fluid is directed through a channel and out the bottom, pass the large thick rubber band sort of seal that goes around the cylinder. I posted a engineering drawing/drawing a month or two back if you want to do a search. Might have cropped it but if you want might be worth a look

Can anyone recommend someone who will sleeve the valves?

Believe it depends on how bad the seal is and if there is a leak above the valve allowing air to enter the system

I have no affiliation with White Post, but I have had three sleeved and rebuilt by them. I have no issues with the two that have been installed in my cars. The other sitting in my tool box.  Excellent job and would recommend their work.

My father in law (rip) did mine 30+ years ago with a brass sleeve and it's still perfect.

Mine started leaking while stored last winter. Not sure if cold weather contributed to it or not but it had been rebuilt by Whitepost and in use for 4 years with no leaks.

More details in https://www.saacforum.com/index.php?topic=10452.0

Also after re-reading that thread, I realized some of the o-ring testing I did with DOT 3 and DOT 5 showed only Nitrile o-rings would swell in DOT-3 which now that I think about it, would help seal the end cap and may be why Whitepost and others don't guarantee their valves with DOT 5 fluid.

I have noticed an interesting phenomenon with these, particularly on ebay.  Apparently, if you take an old crusty, leaking one, put it in a blue and white box and leave it on a shelf for a while, it becomes an NOS one.  Sort of an automotive transubstantiation . . .
