Title: In search of my dads GT350, 67210F2A02078
Post by: 67_02078 on November 15, 2020, 10:58:31 AM
Its been a long time since I was a member of SAAC and Ive recently decided to make public my desire to locate and acquire my dads Shelby. It was the first Shelby my parents bought and it was and is my all-time favorite.
My dad owned his Shelby from approximately 1977 to 1984/5, we lived in Anchorage, AK at the time. It was Nightmist Blue and had ten spoke rims. It was an automatic transmission and had inboard driving lights. He sold it to another Mustang club member who promptly did some body repairs and painted it Grabber Blue. With help from Dave Mathews, Ive tracked it to Sweden in 2002. It was listed for sale on Ebay in 2010. Ive contacted a Mustanger buddy on Europe with the hopes that he can make some inquiries and hopefully find the owner. Im also going to post this on other Mustang-related websites and contact Ebay and ask if they can do a forensic search. Thanks for reading my quest.

Rich suggested that I post some pics of my dads Shelby. These are from the late '70s. I have a couple more of the interior but I need to scan them.

Edit: Ive tried twice to re-orient and re-name these pics and save the edit before re-attaching them. Not sure why the show 90 degrees off.

Only so others won't get stiff neck. And I find it such a burden to have to click on pictures.

Love the pictures.

If that was my dad's car, I would try to get it back too. Hopefully Goranfor is interested in selling.

Good luck!

Looks like I'm a litttle bit behind the forum posts. We have some really great people here in our community.

TEXAS SWEDE replied back to my PM and already found the owner with contact info!
He is the man of the hour!

Another thanks goes out to TRANSAM ED for his help here too.

PS
Don't forget the time difference before you reach out by phone!

Great story! Hoping you will be able to reunite with his car. My dads 350 convert was sold by my mother without us knowing it. I searched and search. Found it. But whomever owns it would not let it go. But it's good to know it in good hands!

Here are a couple of pics from Mar 1980 where we installed a fresh carpet set. We used an open bay at Spenard Upholstery in Anchorage. The owner was a personal friend of my dads.

I couldnt agree more, Bob ! I learned a long time ago that Mustangers and in this case Shelby owners are a great bunch of people. I try and do my best to forward that persona myself. My dad and I shared the Mustang hobby, it was our thing.

UPDATE:
Incredibly, the current owner of 2078 sent me an email this week with a number of pics of its current condition. It looks like he has done a remarkable restomod and kept the OE 289 & C4 intact replacing them with a supercharged 331 and and AOD. I just replied to him to thank him for reaching out to me with pictures of my beloved 2078. I dont know how he got my email or that I was trying to locate 2078 as I was informed I should not contact the owner.

On that same vein, I am grateful for all the understanding and assistance the members on this site gave me without reservation in my search. Mustangers are truly the best car people !! For decades I had wondered what ever happened to 2078 and if it was being well maintained and enjoyed or was it languishing in a field or barn, deteriorating. Now I know. Thank you, all.

Update #2: This morning, I received an email from the current owner of 2078 saying he has decided he is going to sell 2078 and would I be interested in purchasing it. I have been thinking about this possibility this morning and it would be a huge undertaking to get 2078 back to the States. Also, since 2078 has been resto-modded but the OE engine, transmission and 15" ten spoke rims are part of the sale, what would be a price range I should expect? Ive seen recent auction prices of other 67 GT350s so I know they arent cheap.

Thank you, John. I figured the owner must live within the metro area of Stockholm or other large city. I have replied to the owner expressing my interest in seeing if this sale can be made to work for us both.

The last time I posted about 02078 I had settled in my mind that it was being cared for and that I should not expect to be able to own it. His email caught me off guard and Ive been pondering all day questions I have and people I want to contact to ask for advise on logistics. More to come.

No. The guy (Wayne?) my dad sold 2078 to in Alaska was a fellow club member and he was he one that painted it Grabber Blue. When I saw it for the first time in its new paint my first thought was youre the wrong guy to own this Shelby. It looked hideous.

The current owner repainted it the correct Nightmist Blue.
