Here is a picture of brake "wing" hardware. These are also called cable anchors. Does anyone know which (if any) of these was used on March 1966 built Shelbys? The assembly manual shows the wing style anchor used on rear drum brakes.
The hole for the mounting stud on each of these shown in the picture is 1/2" which is too small to install over the 3/4" mounting stud on the backing plate without enlarging it.
I have also attached a picture of my rear brakes with a modified (drilled out) cable anchor installed. I am pretty sure my brakes never had a cable anchor.
Feedback on what these came like from SAI in 66?

Do you have the double white paint marks and small bleeder screw wheel cylinders? Attached is an image of the assembly line rear wheel cylinders with the 38767 casting mark as well.
Does you axle say C4OW5A for the 289 Special axles? I can't quite tell from your image.

I think that's called a shoe guide plate. I cut for the life of me remember that on our assembly.
Tex I used to have that diagram, can you post a cleaner image of it possibly? It gets blurry when I try to zoom in on it.
Will try to scan it again and see if the text and diagram show less blurry.

None of my '66s ever had that "anchor" . Other Fords yes.
Mine didn't either, even though it was so low mileage the shoes were good and the adjuster holes weren't even punched out. I thought one should be there, and even tried to modify a junk one, but the center pin was not long enough to get much thickness in there, which told me all I needed to know. Perhaps doing what the original poster did, asking the forum, would have been easier . . . hmmm . . .

You can see this in original pictures and on unrestored and unaltered cars
My thought is that the smaller ford brake shoes needed them due to the shoes being a 1/4 inch closer to the backing plate, so to me it is a spacer. But I dont know lol

It wasn't used on the regular V8 Mustang rear brakes either.

hahah..its a chevy thing then lol. I am interested to know the purpose of it really, but yes went through my restoration pics and I did not put that part on our car either. Wonder why the OP thinks it belongs on his rear end?
