Title: 1609 and Blue Angel #5
Post by: FlyNavy on March 09, 2021, 12:15:24 PM
New addition to the Hickory Aviation Museum, Hickory NC where I volunteer is our recently retired Blue Angel #5 F/A--18A Hornet.  The Blues have now moved on to the Super Hornet for 2021.  Maybe some time this year, the group would like to come over and hang out for a day and park amongst our aircraft.  One of the aviation museums on the West Coast does a Shelby gathering at their place and they get a nice turnout.

What is the difference between a F/A--18A Hornet and a Super Hornet?

Love the Torq-Thrusts BTW.

Simple answer: it's 20% larger.

Louder and faster.  A little different in leading edge of wings at cockpit and intakes are now square.

Yes, it's ours.  Only our Museum and the Smithsonian got ours flown in and are complete aircraft, the other museums that got them had to remove engines, disassemble, truck, and reassemble which is a very expensive deal.  The people of Hickory were treated to a mini-airshow when it arrived, flown by a former Blue Angel pilot.

Would really like to come over.  I recall we were going to do this a year or so ago but got rained out. Throw out a date and let's see what sticks!

Talked about it for last year, but, yeah, well, you know.....   May or June before it gets too hot or Fall, we can accommodate any time.

We can definitely set something up if there is interest.  Please speak up if you are interested in making this happen.  I think we've all been stuck inside wearing masks long enough.   ;)

So the consensus seems to be May 22nd.  I'm sure I don't have to point out the obvious that there is no such thing as an ideal date, so unless anyone can think of another major event that our members will mind missing, then speak now or forever hold your peace.

I'll make up an official posting here on the SAAC forum, and Denny and I will do e-mail outs.  This should be fun, I haven't seen a real Shelby in person in over a year!    ;)

Thanks, the color is Grabber Blue. I also have a Supercab Lightning color matched to it also. It was on display with Ford at the SEMA show in front of the convention center in 94 and 95 and has been in 6 magazines. The Mustang has been in 2 magazines and 7 calendars.
