Have you checked with Virginia classic mustang? They have reproductions that appear to be virtually perfect.

They are nice, but the hardware is all wrong... the copper lugs should have fine thread and all the nuts should have captured tooth washers... there was also gray sealer used at the base of all 4 nuts.

I bought some reproductions a couple of years back and they were junk.  They would hang in the engaged position and the starter would not disengage.  I think they were from Marti Autoworks.  I finally sent them back and got my money back.

From what I understand, the new ones on the market are made by Alloy Metal, the ones that do a bunch of repro wiring.  I have no first-hand experience with them, but supposedly they don't have the issues with the former versions.  Too bad they couldn't get the hardware correct.

I had a nice original like the one in Phill's photo restored by David Davis at DSD Restorations, turned out very nice.

was it rebuilt internally or just physically restored?

Both. Internals were shot, engine would keep running when the key was turned off. He replaced the internals, restored the exterior, and used the correct gray sealer Charles mentioned on the bolts. Also used gyptal on the top rivet.

I just got off the phone with David. He is not restoring them anymore, it's just to time consuming for him and takes away from the cars he is restoring. It was a great lead and he was very kind over the phone.
