Title: 1966 Choke Cable Nut
Post by: greekz on May 12, 2021, 06:34:31 PM
Somewhere in the plating process my choke cable nut that secures the cable to the bracket got lost.  Does anyone have an extra to purchase or know where I might buy one?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Greek, there is nothing special about this nut. It is a common 7/16-14 non plated jam nut. It's measurements are: 11/16 hex x 1/4 inch thick.

You'll most likely find most commercially-available jam nuts are zinc plated. A dip in muriatic acid will take care of the plating if necessary.

I don't know what the Ford part number is but I wouldn't spend too much time searching for it and subsequently the "actual" nut when it would be easy to get there with a store-bought jam nut.

Hope this helps.

Frank,

Thanks for the information.  I will check my local hardware store.

Greek, after I sent my last post, I browsed on the Home Depot web site and found that they sell a package of 4 nuts for a whopping $1.13. When is the last time that you would spend so little for a Shelby part (1966?).

Frank,

Thanks for the lead.  The Depot was going to be one of my stops.

Thanks,
