I delved into it a little more. Will be set back in the early 1980s. I suspect they will continue to use a Plymouth as that was the car used in the book except the book Plymouth was a 4 door. Don't know what King was thinking re a 4 door. Simply two doors too far away from being cool. The special effects will undoubtedly be better. I am enthused they are doing a remake. I will see it.
It could be about some woke greenie finding the abandoned car in a barn.
Then he converts it to electric power to save the planet.
And the car electrocutes him dead on the first drive.
As the end credits roll, there's another short scene of the car puking up the electric motor, and a 426 Hemi takes its place.
That, I'd pay to watch.

I thought the greenie finds an abandoned first generation Prius, sunk up to the wheels in mud and cow dung. He saves it but every time he plugs it in for a recharge, people die. Remember the scene from The Green Mile when the sadistic dork doesn't wet the sponge?

The original movie is set in 1978. So if the movie is set in the 1980's the car would need to be from the 1960's.
Maybe a Corvair could come out of a barn, get restored and then kill Ralph Nader in the finale before exploding into flames, then reappear as a Smart electric Fortwo?

Very true. A college friend of mine, his dad collected Corvairs.....from 1965 to 1969 ONLY. He agreed with Nader, the "Swing axle" design before that was a danger. Funny, look under any old VW Bug......
Or a Spridget.
Or Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and likely the roadster as well...
