Dave
I just want to drive one...
I hope you guys who want to "drive one" or "Want one" have either grey hair, a ponytail, bald, or a girlfriend who is 3 years younger than you are.....That is a requirement for a corvette. Oh, I almost forgot, you MUST not know how to drive a manual. MUST! It is not about fun, its about how you are perceived behind the wheel.
When I got my '97 Corvette, my hair was brown, high and tight. My wife was (and still is) 2 years younger than me. Manual?...Check. I owned the car for 20 years, 175K miles and lots of Autocrosses. For me, it's all about the fun!
I enjoy the good natured rivalry between car brands, but never understood those who take it to the level of vitriol. My brother-in-law is defiantly in the "Mopar or No Car" camp.
I drove my '65 Mustang in Autocross for many years before taking it down for a rebuild in '93 (my never-ending project – "I'll get it done this year!"). I showed up at the next autocross with my '94 Firebird Formula that "I bought for my wife" ;). As expected, most of my Ford buddies gave me a ribbing, but there were a few who were genuinely peeved. I had a ball with that car!
In '97, I doubled down on GM with the Corvette. It is one of the best cars I've owned. I might still have it except Chevy no longer supports the electronics, so I raided a wrecking yard, found my module and sold the car.
In 2019, I wanted to start doing track days. I've always had a passion for Shelby's and for me, the '19 GT350 has turned out to be the perfect weapon.
The first time I showed up at an Autocross with the GT350, the Ford guys obviously approved and most of my Chevy buddies gave me a ribbing, but as before, some of them were genuinely annoyed. Why? We live in wonderous times with an amazing selection of automotive toys. I've owned Dodges, Audis, BMWs, Pontiacs, Chevys and Fords. I think some were better than others, but I had fun with each one.
I like what Chevy has done with the new Corvette, though I lament the lack of a manual transmission. If I were racing, I'd have the DCT in a heartbeat, but I'm driving for the fun of it and enjoy the manual. I love the FPC and think it's cool that Chevy followed Ford's lead. To me, the sound is one of the GT350's greatest features.
However, I suspect I'll not be swapping my GT350 anytime soon. It's the best car I've owned yet. I would probably only consider the Z06 (or Z07) option as a worthy replacement. While the GT350 as a track toy is a (relative) bargain, I expect the Corvette Z06 is going to be priced in the exotic region.

I just saw the C8 closeup yesterday. That car is small. Smaller then my Pantera. Your feet must wind up just behind the front bumper and it's LOW. Looks like it's "slammed" in the front?
I'm still spinning. I don't know if I love it or hate it yet?
Ford needs to get their act together and come up with something comparable and affordable. We are going to be seeing a lot of these Z06's on the race circuit.

The big 2 and a half need to STOP selling the United States out. "Awake but NOT Woke"- Jp Sears.
The back end of the Corvette is the winner of the Fat Ass Contest. As for the Camaro, Ugly, but beautiful after 10 drinks in the bar.....Were all who seen the Corvette at the "Come to the BAR, have a few, then see the Vette" show?
Back to the Camaro, I can honestly say that it is one car that actually looks more ugly the more you look at it. And, are those taillights I see from a Camaro?
What many need to do is "drive" a 05 06 FGT.

I didn't get to the ass yet. I'm still checking out the "headlights".
There is this "spacey is better" look going on right now. I used to love Lamborghini's until they completely wound up in the other Universe design wise.
I can deal with the Miuras. I'm thinking right now that a C7 Z06 makes more sense. I just saw one advertised for $31,000 with 1,500 miles on it.
I AM having esthetic issues with the "spacey" C8.
I suppose that means that I'd need to put $2,000 worth of tires on it since the originals are all dried and cracked?
Should I hold out hope that Ford will save me? I gave up on Vipers. They look dated.
This business of going over to the 'Dark Side' IS complicated.
I'm even considering going to an "automatic" after driving a "Porosche" PDK. My left leg is dragging and sometimes "lefty" complains a little about it? Maybe my clutch days are over?
Where is the "Shelby Doc" when you need him? Would a "her" understand better?

Now THAT'S a REAL sign of getting OLD! :'(
Yes, but I will give it to them if the dark side is needed....I would suggest, be the second owner, the old man who bought the Corvette will need to sell it soon, and the 30 plus younger wife won't want it, I think, 45K in a few years, (since there will be so many) is not out of the limit.
BTW, I am 62 and bald myself, I think I look better in a Ford GT (06) than in a Corvette. Nobody is seeing me in a FGT, they are too busy looking at the car.
AND, is it me, I actually have a little problem spotting the new one, as it resembles Corvettes of the past to me. It just does not stand out. And one thing is certain, you will not confuse a FGT with a Mustang.

That is the car places like Superformance should build. It's got the looks and is big enough for a real person to get in and drive without being a contortionist. The doors would need to be reworked so they are usable in day to day parking situations.
I'm sure Ford would not allow it though - how about a scaled up MKIV? You know the one that was all American built with all American parts and won LeMans with an all American team. How could GM claim to be America's sports car if that was build again?

I just sat in Winkler's the one time at NJ. It was claustrophobic. My head was against the roof liner.
If I drove it regularly, I'd develop a bald spot on the top of my head and there is no room for man spread!

Well GM has got to be grinning on this entire scenario. Ford has just screwed itself out of a response like we want to hear such as they have a Corvette competitor for the market.
They boxed themselves in with their ridiculous "exclusivity" of very limited production and very high price.
I don't think that GM considers the entire Corvette line as a loss leader? Apparently Ford would on a GT?
Ford's got a GT that they can't fit a V8 in and they want out of the V8 business anyway. VERY shallow thinking here.
I've got to give this to GM in this case. They just out maneuvered and out smarted Ford on this one. They didn't do so well on the Cosworth Vega though did they?
Chrysler will just continue to offer taxi cabs. It works for them so who am I to criticize. That's their market and they just never could compete with the other two.

Ford has never had a car to compete against the Vette. They built the 55-7 Tbird to compete against the 53 Vette. But had already lost when the 56 Vette came out - so they turned it into their first personal luxury car. They brought it back almost 50 years later as a 2 seater with fiberglass body but when one of your main design criteria is getting 2 bags of golf clubs in the trunk you might as well not even print the brochure.
The latest Ford GT was not a loss leader. It was a profitable product at it's price point. Ford learned with the 05-6 and added the expected dealer markup to the base cost.
When the next gen Mustang comes out Ford will be out of the V8 business (except in heavy trucks F450^). They have completely laid down and accepted what the Green New Deal will bring to the auto business.
The Cosworth Vega was a much better car than the Mustang II.
Chrysler has been bastard child in the big 3 family since the 50s. Iacocca brought it back from death but it wasn't all his brilliance that did it. The US was coming out a recession and gas prices were high. People were looking for a cheap gas sipper and the K car fit the bill. The fact that .gov had basically put out the edict to buy Chrysler so they would be able to pay back the bailout didn't hurt. Iacocca's brilliant Minivan was a project he had worked on at Ford and they scrapped it after the Deuce canned him. Nobody wanted to push Lee's projects for fear of following him out the door.
The fact that FCA has been looking for a buyer for Dodge tells me they don't want to be in the Taxi business. They broke up into Jeep, RAM (trucks) and Dodge (cars vans) just so they could divest the money losing Dodge.
+1 ^^^
And, when Stellantis finishes its current run of Hellcat-powered Dodges and Jeeps, that engine is going away.
What will they have left to sell to enthusiasts? They're waaaaaaay behind in electric cars. (Okay by me. :P)
There aren't as many taxi cabs as there use to be, either. When's the last time you got in an Uber that was a Charger or 300?
Ram and Jeep. That's all there'll soon be.

A Ford competitor to the Corvette at the GM PRICES would be a looser for Ford. It wouldn't fit into their concept and the way they have structured their position.
It's all suggesting to me that there are too many internal factions at each that need guidance to determine what each company is and where they are going?
I'm not sure that either of them can cover all bases at the same time?
Not that it is the intent but this concept of a modular system where you can plug any component into any vehicle doesn't look like it will work here with at least the Ford GT and the C8. I'd be shocked if there were EV versions of either running around being analyzed. A electric taxi cab from Mopar I'd believe.
I couda, shouda had a V8, but didn't...the end !

So I said f#ck it, I'm buying one, and I'm pretty happy I did. Seize the day as they say.

Here's the problem. It isn't a POS. I look at it as just a big version of my slot cars from 1965.
I never could get those brakes to work right though.
I don't like the internal combustion engine in a car being blamed for the worlds problems.
40% of carbon emissions is still from coal burning. That's ridiculous.
ONLY 5% is being attributed to commercial air flights. How can that be only 5%? Every time one takes off it burns more fuel then I do in ten years.
Forcing the big three out of the internal combustion engine is a mistake. Introducing electric is inevitable and probably necessary strategically as well.
Yes it is a big electric P. O. S. point of sale.....

Forcing the big three out of the internal combustion engine is a mistake. Introducing electric is inevitable and probably necessary strategically as well.
Now that's not exactly the same thing now is it? ;)

But it doesn't sound as good as a Pittman 85 with loosely set straight cut gears. Our local slot car shop had a drag strip that ran the length of one wall. Everything in the shop ran on golf cart batteries and at the drag strip you could dial in 6V, 12V, 18V or 24V. I epoxied the windings on the armature so the 6V motor wouldn't throw them on 24V.

My Cox GT40 was uncontrollable. It would pop wheelies. I still have it and my Chaparral.
I'm still mad at my mom for throwing away my bitchin Cobra 427 slot car with the sidewinder motor!
Of course, I'd want it when I am this age! Didn't seniors play with slot cars, back in your day, Mom?

I picked up this Scalelectrix Goodwood limited edition set at the last LASAAC show. I had Charlie Agapou and Peter Miles sign it.
This is trick - the cars follow the racing line but do switch to passing lane if close to car in front. https://www.goodwood.com/grr/race/historic/2021/5/video-incredible-monaco-gp-scalextric-track/

They had no imagination. Lack of illicit drugs no doubt?
