I'm about to redo my garage (finally) and would love some ideas. Everyone knows Shelby folks have the best taste, so how about sharing some pics of your garage, or at least one that inspired you.
Hopefully you'll get some great ideas. Not exactly sure what you mean by "re-do"?
everything for me always ends up being a "work-in-progress" as I've never been able to see far enough into the future to accommodate what happens.
My Pole Building was originally supposed to be indoor parking for the trailer and an extra vehicle... 10 years later, it is jam-packed and has a lift to create double-deck parking :o ??? ::)
(I used the rigid foam insulation for ease of installation)

You planning on building your own or buying and just installing prefab cabinets and such.
Front garage is messy right now - too messy for pictures ::)
New shop is still :( in the planning stage.
I find what is most interesting in the build is finding ways come up with creative ways for specialized storage and needs I have or may have. Often this is easy and cheap but you need to realize the need before the build since forgetting to include them means that they can't often be added later.

Build bigger than think you will need, add really nice flooring, lighting and a " man cave" area. Make it tall enough for a 4 post lift. Really nice built in and movable cabinets and enjoy
OK.
FWIW, that's a Rust-o-Leum industrial epoxy on my floor. Almost 11 years old, and - so far - has only lifted in 2 small spots maybe 6 sq inches total. A couple of my cars are pretty leaky, the epoxy has proven to be impervious to any and all automotive fluids.
(The 10 ft ceiling was never intended to accommodate a lift, but it has worked out reasonably well for my limited purposes)
Good luck - and keep us posted :)

Oh, what I wouldn't give for a 10' ceiling! I'm at 9' 5", and it's killing me!
"Oh, what I wouldn't give for a 10' ceiling! I'm at 9' 5", and it's killing me!"
You'll get no sympathy from me! I'm at 8'-6" and would kill for another foot! The only saving grace is that we have room for 7 cars but have to use Go-Jacks to get a couple moved around.
I went with 12'
This is very timely as I just began the process of building my garage. Up to now I have been keeping my car in my mom's garage. But last week I had all the trees cleared from the back yard where the garage is to go. Very exciting. The most I can build is a 2 car garage and I am vacillating between 24'W X 32'D X 13'H vs. 26' X 32 X 13'. But the 32 feet deep should give me plenty of room in the back for a work area and man cave area. I am definitely having a 2 post lift and the 13' ceiling should be plenty adequate for that. I can not wait to get my car in my back yard!

After rereading your original post guess someone should have asked what kind of garage are you planning or need. A display/storage man cave type or a working garage? Believe after seeing and visiting allot through the years they are IMHO two different beast.
Just thought if we knew we could post ideas and examples closer aligned with your needs.

That is one good looking garage! Planning a sweet garage build when we finally move to the burbs from the city. Daydreaming for now.
Tomorrow they start to lay down some metallic swirl epoxy coating to the garage floor. Next will come the cabinets, followed by the lift. I just wanted to post a before picture in order to make a good comparison. I'm really looking forward to it, it only took 10 years of living here before I finally got around to doing the garage. ::)

Brian,
How tall is your garage and what lift have you selected?
Thanks,

Brian, Is you floor done? I'm curious how it came out. You are probably waiting until the whole thing is done for the "Grand Unveiling".
So the floor is finished and I couldn't be happier. I still need to paint the walls, install a cabinet sytem, and get the lift installed.
Steve, my ceiling hight is 12 foot on the nose. Im looking at a typical Bendpak, extra tall lift.

I agree, that a nice big garage in height, width and depth.
Very nice collection of cars. Looks like a white Boss 429 under the cover!
The face is because, I told the wife I had a " PROBLEM" The garage is getting to be too small. She says get rid of some cars! PROBLEM SOLVED. :-\
I was going to post a few pics of my 2.5+ size garage, but after seeing some of these other guys super-garages, forget it. I got nothing to offer. Someday, I'll have 2 3-car garages on my property, but that will have to come AFTER I get my first Shelby.
Finally making progress on my garage. The weather here in Maryland is slowing progress this week but we will get there. It is not as big as I originally planned but the county restrictions must be observed. It is 20' X 32' with 13 ' ceilings. Hope to have the Shelby tucked away by winter.
It looks like posting pictures is not working again so I will try the old fashioned way.

VERY nice! And the ceiling height will be awesome for stacking / getting under cars.
That pole garage is gonna have tons of room. It will have stairs to a second story above the cars? How many cars can it hold?
If I were to hit the lottery and was able to purchase 3 more Shelbys you could stack and get 4 in there. But for now it will be one lonely Shelby and my Harley. I am going to have a lift. I really want a 2 post but because it is not as wide as I wanted it may make more sense to get a 4 post. I will make that decision later.
BTW did you all notice the custom weather vane they made for me on top of the cupola? They had roosters and such and I asked if they could do a profile of my car. I sent them a few profiles and this is what they came up with. Not exact but on top of the roof one would never notice.
Working garage and 8500 SF man cave before remodeling.
Corey,..don't forget that if you decided on a 2 post it has a different requirement for the floor cement thickness .

This might work for your new garage as a lift. Much smaller footprint than a four post, and can still be used for maintenance work.

A "tight fit" doesn't even begin to describe the first picture, right hand bay.
The second pic shows a more comfortable height to the lift side ☺️
BTW - I sold 3 of the cars in the first pic. I think you can guess which one I kept.
Bigfoot I am having a strip of the pad 6' long the full width of the garage that will be 6" thick to accommodate the 2 post lift so I think I am covered. The rest of the pad will be 4" thick.
^^
Glad ur ahead of the idea with the cemento requirements.
I had my garage done 5 years ago. If I remember right from my concrete guy thicker does not necessarily equal stronger. There are different weight ratings based on other things added to the mix. Have to dig up my notes of I can find them.

I recently installed two Autostackers. Their build quality is excellent, and they are easy to put a low ground clearance car on. Best part is they're a scissors-type lift, so no poles. Good for a narrow garage space.

That's correct. There is a PSI for concrete. I wasn't going to go down that road because of the added complications but here we go.
Average concrete is like 3000 psi. You want stronger for an area that would take a 2 post lift. That's what "they say."
I'm not sure how much higher but the higher the number the stronger the concrete.
IE,...4000 psi would be better than 3000 for a 2 post lift area.
One would want to ask the question to the company selling the lift.
I would recommend calling whomever is the local guy selling the many brands offered by Dover Corp.
Just google it. They have commercial lifts and home lifts. They practically invented the space.
From my research I found you want a minimum of 3000 psi concrete. I'm getting 3500 psi so again I should be good to go.
Guys, Due to the fact that I am in the concrete business. The proper floor for a shop that I would do would be 5" inches thick with wire mesh over 4" inches of compacted fill. The concrete mix should be 4000 psi. The cost difference is minimal. Sawcut the joints after initial cure no more than 20' x 20' apart to control cracking. And last use a good cure and seal product after the final finishing is complete. I hope this helps . Thanks Steve
Steve, thanks for the input. My garage started out as a home, machine shop. I also went with reinforced 4000 PSI pour. Also had glass filament added. Has been crack free for over 20 years. Wish I had styrofoam sheets or other insulation laid down before the pour. All summer the floor will sweat in hot, humid weather.
I glad you reminded me. You do need a good 6 mil visqueen barrier under the floor. And it really helps when you have 2" styrofoam around the perimeter of the floor, depending on where you are located in the country.
Thank you Steve! Very helpful.
I am having the 4" of packed stone and using wire mesh as well as fiber reinforced. It is stated they will cut with diamond tip blade to help control cracking.
Here's a pix of my Autostackers the day they were installed. (Sorry for no Shelby products in this pix.)
I think a benefit of these is that their load is spread out over a larger section of floor than a 2 or 4 post lift typically does.

A couple of quick questions Side-Oilers, how far from the back wall are your lifts? And how long are the mounting bolts used on the Autostacker? I am having one installed in the very near future in my garage/shop space.

Although a 2 post lift works better on some jobs I find a 4 post is more versatile for maintenance plus storing an additional vehicle and not mounted permanently. ;)

The base of the lift is mounted 40 inches away from the back wall of my garage.
With my Cobra on top (backed in) there is 19 inches clearance from the car to the wall.
I didn't do the installation myself, so I don't know exactly what length bolts they used. (Maybe 5 inches?) Here's a pix.
Hope this helps.
Ok, thank you.
One of the nice things about a good, heavy 4 Poster ,..like my Rotary (Dover Corp) is that one does not even need to bolt them into the floor.
Additionally,..
We're one to want to move them it makes it easy.
Additionally,...
Some times 4 posters bolted in can "bind up" in operation because of the way things shift a bit....
Even if they are not supposed to.

As far as the lonely goes, I am planning on finding a little project 65-68 coupe that my 12 year old daughter and I can refurbish together over the next 4 years so it is complete when she turns 16. I think it would be an experience she would never forget.
Really nice garage, I'm jealous
Great garage Corey, nice and high in there, are you planning a hoist?
I am for sure. I really want a 2 post lift but because of county restrictions the garage is not as big as I wanted so I am not sure if that is the best way to go? A 4 post lift can be easily moved around where a 2 post has to be fixed. So I have the weigh the options out and decide the best way to go. My plan is to get a lift next summer.

Stop down Dave's barn on Saturday and ask to look at his 4 post list. when the wheels are on it, it rolls real easy
I wont be there but he will be
Steve my brother has a 4 post and my good buddy has a two post and I have worked on my car using both. I like the accessibility the two post allows to the underside of the car but like the flexibility of the 4 post. Besides if I go into Dave's barn I will be too tempted to take your original hood off the wall and hang it in my garage :D
Too late, already moved the hood ;)
Caught up on this thread. Some really nice garages/shops and cars people have here.
When I moved to my current house about 2.5 years ago we looked for over a year to find suitable
land for me to build a shop. The 2.5 acres with house already had a 24x30 detached oversize garage
with central heat, running water and bathroom/shower.
I've added on a 40x50 metal bld with 16' ceiling to the small garage.
It's a mess with parts and tools etc and just this week finally having 1000sqft of loft built in the big bld
so I can get organized. I'll try to post some pics soon.
In the big shop I went with basic concrete stain/paint and some of it hasn't help up too well. I didn't
want to spend the $ on epoxy at the time but I guess I should have.
I installed a 2 post lift in my garage over the weekend. Still have to wire it up and add hydraulic fluid but almost ready to lift the car. I found building a 2 post lift to be easier that a 4 post lift. The only hard part was lifting the columns but I have access to Navy football players so that made it pretty easy.
Forgot to add the picture.
Make sure its BIG enough. LOL The next one will be!

Great lift Cory. I like the idea of a two post lift, but I don't think it would work well for storage, which is my primary purpose. Last Monday, I installed a Bendpak 4 post. I also bought a rolling jack which is pretty cool and makes it much more practical.
Nice Brian! Can not go wrong with Bendpak.
I really soul searched on 2 post vs. 4 post. I agree it is probably a very bad idea to store a car on a 2 post lift for a few reasons. But unfortunately for me I am not burdened with the problem of storing several of these great cars so my primary purpose for the lift is servicing my car. You can definitely use a 4 post for servicing as well especially with the sliding jack option but I felt like a 4 post was more intrusive on the space in my garage. But I put the 2 post back far enough in my garage that should I win the lottery and pick a few other Shelbys I could add a 4 post in the forward section of my garage.
Brian, Does the rolling jack slide along the bottom railings allowing you to lift the car off of the rails with air, meaning lift the tires off the lift to allow them to be removed. So you basically can use the 4 post lift like a 2 post to work on tires and brakes? My 4 post has the option to install those, but at the time I purchased it I didn't know if I would ever use them. Now that I have had the lift for awhile, I was considering adding that to my lift. How do you like them if that's what you have. Did you go with just one or two.

Yes Jeff, that's exactly how it works. Pneumatic control, moves along the inside of the rails with barely any effort. Bendpak makes nicely engineered equipment.

Beautiful - and the orange kitty just fits in the cage. Nice!
That's a great shot JK66!
