Snagged these off facebook. Looks like a late '65 and a carryover... Bill Collins might be interested in the pics as his 006 sold new at Archway.
2 more...
Great pics. Thanks for sharing. What a sight to walk up to on a Saturday morning in 1966 at the showroom

I think the '66 carryover is 6S230. I only found 2 carryover's shipped to Archway Motors, the other was 6S248, but there is no mention of LeMans stripes.
The '65 is one of these:
5S505
5S471
5S358
Thanks for sharing
On the '66 carryover, I am not surprised by the lack of GT350 emblem on the rear tail lamp panel, but it appears to be a '65 gas cap. Am I seeing that correctly?

Wow, yes! Thanks Charles. Some years ago I met a fellow who told me that he lived near Archway at the time and had taken some photos of several early GT350's in front of the dealership. But I could never get him to follow up and share them - I suspect these may be those photos.
It is interesting to note the circular architecture of the showroom, similar to that of Francis For Fords here in Harrisburg. But note the pavement color beneath the Archway Shelbys - they were given the "Red Carpet Treatment"!
I saw these photos on Facebook as well. Does the '65 not have a dashpod?
So cool to see period dealership photos in color no less!
Thank you for sharing.
Do you think they were discounting the '65 over the "brand new" '66 :)

I agree with you about the 1966 car. It's a carryover for sure because it doesn't have backup lights. And, as you mentioned, only 2 carryovers shipped to Archway - 6s230 with Cragars & stripes, and 6s248 with Cragars but no stripes. Making this car 6s230. Great research on your part. I was all set to do a deep dive to figure out which carryover that was, but you already did that. Thanks!

Yes looks like a 65 Mustang gas cap. Maybe someone took/stole the other one
Piggy-backing on the research and information that Charles previously provided, we can make a pretty good guess when these photos were taken.
5S358 – shipped to Archway on 8/3/65 and sold to first owner on 12/21/65
5S471 – shipped to Archway on 8/3/65 and sold to first owner on 12/10/65
5S505 – shipped to Archway on 8/3/65 and sold to first owner on 12/22/65
6S230 – shipped to Archway on 9/30/65 and didn't sell until 9/3/66.
It would seem that these pictures had to be taken between 9/30/65 (when 6S230 shipped to Archway) and 12/22/65 (when the last of the possible 1965 GT350s in these photos was sold to its first owner.
Make sense?

So, theoretically, the same could be said for the gas cap as the lack of GT350 emblem. The SA associate simply failed to install the new parts.
I did read in the Registry that under warranty, the gas cap was replaced on 9/14/66. I wonder if it was the '65 cap or a correct '66 cap?
Interesting none the less.

The cap is a important visual for the exterior of the car. With that said not that SA could not have made a mistake but given the check over of things on SA cars prior to shipment it is more likely replaced because of stolen, warranty etc.

Archway is in Maryland... so looking at the trees in the background of some of the pics, looks like they were mostly through Fall? Maybe mid to late October?
A pic of the dealership, date unknown...
I actually have the negatives for these photos in my collection. I purchased them off eBay back in 2017. According to info provided by the seller the photographer was Steve Rollins and they were taken sometime in November 1965. Unfortunately I don't see a date on the negatives to confirm.

In the pictures in Bill' post #6 of the line up of cars, it appears one of the cars is a R Model? With lettering and a number on the side? Would this have been for sale? Or just lined up with the street Shelby's to generate excitement?
Great pictures. Thanks for posting.

In one of the pics you can see the hole in the dash for the pod...id bet the Tach was being warrantied as most were at one point or another.
Kind regards,
Vern

Bill's photo at Francis for Fords shows 5r213 on it's stop at the dealer during the Cobra Caravan tour.
(Not for sale at that time)

Archway received 5R106, so guessing that's it in the pic.
5r106 was the Dick Jordan R model that was delivered to Jack Loftus Ford (IL) in August 1965.
He owned and raced it for a few years.
You fingers might have slipped and meant to type 5r105 that shipped to Archway in June '65
Thanks for posting all those great color photos!

Thanks for posting it too!
It looks like a '49 Merc to the left, on the street.

Details about the the R model at Francis For Fords (5R213) were discussed in the Forum topic about the Cobra Caravan. See it at:

Another great photo! The dark color car at the far right in the showroom has the outline of a '49-'51 Club Coupe - and the Mercury parked at the curb appears to be of similar vintage.
Did anyone notice the ultra rare "Cobra 427 is Here" banner hanging in the showroom window?
Good eye on the 427 Cobra poster. I would love to have that. My 427 came from Archway.
Archway sponsored one of the most successful 427 Cobras winning countless SCCA races in the hands of Hal Keck.

Yep, thanks for correcting!
Great thread ! love those period pics "colour" ! of new cars at the dealership 8)
Here's a couple of shots of the Archway Cobra, catching air at Marlboro in '66.
the colour shot could be Lime Rock ? Do we have enough tires ?
Can any one make out the tag on the E-type Jag ?
