Title: Question? Inboard head lights and Tail Lights wiring..
Post by: FordGT on April 24, 2022, 08:26:32 PM
Does any one have pictures of the original way or connectors Shelby connected the front inboard light wiring into the front harness and also for the tail lights into rear trunk harness.
On my car, harness wire insulator coating has been cut off and the wires wrapped around each other and electrical taped.  Is this how it was done?

Thanks for the help...

Might be helpful to list car number as there were running changes to the inboards.

Does this describe the front inboard light wiring or the rear tail light wiring???  Not clear.

Have you looked at the article on '67 Running Changes?

See reply #5 on this link, download the 3-part article or if you have the 2013 Fall issue it may help on both.

^^ Is that the SJ build date or the SA completion date?  Again not clear.

It has been posted a few times of how the inboards were tied into the main Ford Mustang wiring harness and also shown in the Branda '67 Shelby Assembly Manual, you may want to buy this book...

Did you use the SEARCH feature at the top right of the home page?

although the harness was slightly different Inboard and outboard headlights were typically connected to the Mustang harness the same way throughout production. The same goes for the taillight harness White 3M scotch loks  were used on the front headlight light harness and clear with blue stripe butt connector was used for the taillight harness on all but the earliest (Oct 66) build cars . The color denoted the gauge of wire (16-16) that they were intended for. The 3M scotch locks are still available. The clear with blue stripe butt connector was obsoleted decades ago and evolved into the solid blue seen today. you will have to make something up yourself if you want those.  Electrical tape would sometimes be used at the factory to wrap the butt connectors used on the taillight connection.  No tape wrapping of the headlight connection. Any deviation from this described typical build procedure is not the way the factory did it.

Okay so the tail light harness does have the clear w/blue stripe connectors and front inboard head lights have no white scotch loks on them.

Who is selling the correct white scotch loks?

Thanks for all your help.....

I bought some of the clear with blue stripe from a Forum member, BossBill several years ago.  The thread is below.

Those look close enough IMO.

FYI those same butt connectors are on both ends of the horn wire extensions used on outboard cars.

Branda may have some of the 3M off-white Scotchlok connectors:

others do:

That is unfortunate.  Good to know.

Fortunately the information in reply#8 looks to be the same thing as Bill had.

The minimum order number on mine was 50. It was tough getting rid of the 46 I had left over. I think I broke even.

However, I have about a thousand of the 3M headlight snap-loks. Minimum ordering strikes again.
They are a bit more ivory than the originals, but pretty close.

PM me if you want a handful or more!
