Title: Radial tire size?
Post by: Ldouble619 on May 07, 2022, 04:38:57 PM
What tire size and brand is everyone running for radial tires on stock 1969 Shelby rims?

Thanks

I run 245/60/15 sportman, Mickey Thumpson but 235 is more popular from my observation

Thanks to both!  I those were the two tires I was debating. Mickey Thompson's ST are about the same price as the coopers (3$ more)

Thanks, Patrick. Do you have any rubbing with the 245?  Any pics?

On my June 69 built 70 GT 350 convertible, for the street, I'm running 235/60/15 Cooper Cobras

On my old March 69 built 69 GT500 fastback (earliest big spindle car per Mongo), I ran Goodyear Assurance 215/65R15 as the 235/60/15 BFG's rubbed a little.

Spec wise, they were close enough for me
Original F60
Overall Diameter in inches-25.9
Section Width in inches-9.2

Goodyear Assurance 215/65R15
Overall Diameter in inches-26
Section Width in inches-8.5

Hope you find this helpful.

The M/T sportsman radials are made on the same production line as the cooper radial GTs. They are nearly identical tires. The M/T supposable have a slightly sticker compound.

I have bias ply on almost all my fleet - as long as they are new and not ancient and rock hard they drive just fine. Modern radial tires look awful and don't last at all anymore.

No rubbing.
Here a pic.
Stance is not correct as there is no heads on the engine.

From that picture it looks like there isn't an engine in it. Looks like it is sitting pretty high to me and I don't think a set of heads and intake is going to lower it  that much?

Since we are talking tires and whats available does anyone have a site that lists all available out there? Use the main chains or tire rack they only show you a couple like T/As and Copper Cobras and maybe one or 2 others. Those sites didn't show all like Belle tire gives me 3 options and not all available. I'm looking to put 215-65-15s on the front on my 69 Mach1(68 and early 69 tire size of E-70-15s) and either 245/255-60-15s in the rear. I did that on my 68 Shelby(255s) and like the look. Gary

You'll like the eagle assurance, smooth, black, sidewall for the front, not certain about your requested rear tire size. Fills the wheel well quite nicely. Think there may be an earlier thread where I posted comparison pictures of the two.

I just actually did a Goodyear tire search on Goodyear's website for 235-60-15 and no matches came up. I actually pulled up a few Goodyear stores and no tires in 235/245/255-60-15s . Maybe they quit making them?

Thanks. I found the other size on Ebay but couldn't match up a set of rears I wanted for Regina's old car. https://www.ebay.com/itm/324915585787?fits=Section+Width%3A215%7CRim+Diameter%3A15%7CAspect+Ratio%3A65&epid=11037582692&hash=item4ba67a62fb:g:dzkAAOSw6wphp2no
