This Shell station in the first photo borders Beverly Hills, but is in LA. I shot this photo today.
When we were in San Antonio, Texas, two weeks ago, I shot the other photo.
Somebody in gov't and the oil companies needs to do some splanin'.
Van,
Your in Kommifornia. Texas gas prices are cheap compared to the west coast. When I moved from Houston to Vegas during the pandemic in March 2020, gas prices in Cypress (Houston) was 99 cents! As I drove west, the prices got higher. March 2020 Vegas gas prices: $2.19. Now, its $4.54. Wonder why? LOL
Still over $5/gal here thanks to our Texas owned refineries and suppliers who bring oil or processed fuels from Argentina and Venezuela due to having to deal with restrictive 1920 Jones Act. (Have to transport with US registered and 75% US crew ships between US ports). We did stop importd from Russia, though. And youon the contenant worry about pipeline and rail problems making fuel prices jump. 8)
Every day I hear how gas is going down, down, down. Where I live, the price had gotten down to $4.58. Now, all of a sudden, the price is back up to $4.79.
California doesn't matter. Gas can be $27.39 a gallon there and most of the population there will still vote a certain way. As for the rest of the country, it went from $5.25 to $3.25 where I live in the last month and a half and its being touted as an amazing savings just in time for the election! Please don't be fooled. January 2021 price where I live was around $2.25! Just remember, if a certain party wins in November, as far as gas prices going up? YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN YET!!

Nope
Govt takes its taxes in Cali it's about 50 cents plus, Texas same gas tax is around 20 cents or so.
Cali gas is reformulated with special herbs and spices ( not really it gets reoxigenated to burn cleaner they think)
The culprits are the service station owners that in recent years have made up to and over one dollar of profit per gallon.
This was unheard of before, in the past it's been cents on the gallon. But today the tide has turned.
Especially in afluent neighborhoods like the above mentioned woukd not be surprised if their profit is much higher than just one dollar per gallon

having to deal with restrictive 1920 Jones Act. (Have to transport with US registered and 75% US crew ships between US ports).
Hi... US Merchant Mariner here with a reality check.
The Jones Act protects not only US flag vessels and US Mariners but the ships need to be made in the USA. This protects US shipyards.
It also protects US ports as all US sailors have a huge amount security checks in order to maintain their licenses.
Without the Jones Act you would have shipyards disappear from the USA and would have Chinese or Saudi owned vessels pushing red flag barges up the Mississippi and throughout our inland waterways with Foreign crews. I'm sure there would never be any price gouging by a Chinese owned company once they owned the industry.
Once a manufacturing sector disappears, it does not come back ever.
Anyway, just tossing that out.
Carry on
Drew
Understand Jones Act that was enacted when only ships transported products and people over water. Good thing it never got extended to aircraft or few products or passengers would be able to move as freely or have enough aircraft for transport. Same with trucks transporting and trains transporting goods and passengers around the country. The Act is obsolete concept.
No one cares about the Jones Act affect like we do being 2500 miles from the next port and having shipments limited. US shipyards, unfortunately, have been priced out by regulations, labor costs, etc. Hawaii used to get Alaska oil for locally owned refineries here. But the number of US flagged tankers is limited and they went primarily to west coast. So we have to import from unfriendly countries.
Hawaii has the only US flagged and US citizen operated passenger ship in the world. US citizens don't like the lack of a casino and higher costs due to US labor laws mandates and high imported fuel and food costs., but we support it it with a cruise every year. In time of military crisis, how many o those cruise ships would be able to transport personnel like they did in WWII base on the Jones Act concept?
Luckily, our fuel prices for cars and ships (even military) are not taxed like California. 8)

More fake news from the great Tony. When I lived in Texas (2018-2020) they use E10 (10% ethanol/90% ...etc. It was clearly stated on the gas pumps.
I think Illinois under PISSKER & DURDUMB is around 47 cents per gallon,
I can go 12 miles and cross the Mississippi river and save a bunch.
REMEDY, PLEASE tell absolutely everybody >> inc the dead that voted BIDUMB & Kalua in, to vote a straight Republican ticket on Nov the 8th.
If the house and senate is taken, at least we can stop further damage.
Even if you are a Democrat, maybe it will bring back eggs at 1.45 cents a doz, milk at 2.00 a gal, gas at under 2.00 a gallon. diesel under 2.75 a gallon.
The country needs all the help we can get.
Respectfully,
John

You sound like the late Chris or is it David ?
Any hooooo.......
California gasoline prices are generally higher and more variable than prices in other states because relatively few supply sources offer California's unique blend of gasoline outside of the state. California's reformulated gasoline program is more stringent than the federal government's program.
California Certification Fuel - California Air Resources Board
Yeah, but $4/gallon more expensive to produce?!?!?! NFW.
