Post by: Coralsnake on September 25, 2022, 11:11:37 AM
Well the final update of the year. The Coralsnake is more than a witty forum contributor...

I think its been 23 years now, but who is counting?

More great dealer stories around 50 total now. Some cool NOS parts and other things you will enjoy. Included is a 1969 GT350 4speed update.

File under its a small world after all (give or take a few decades):

I saw the Cobra when it was on display.

Purchase date of 2312 is my birthday. Who knew.

Pete, I do not think a vacuum tree is used with a non air dual advance 70 4 speed  351. My car didn't have nor did a friends car and we were both owners since the 80s(me 85 and him 82).Air cars yes, non air cars, no.

The vacuum tree is present on every other dual diaphragm application as far as I can tell, but I will do some further research

Besides my car and a GG 4 speed car that a fellow GM engineer has owned since about 1982-3 I confirmed with him that the dual advance and plug where the vacuum tree would go were never on his car when he bought it. There would be no reason for cars like ours to have someone pull it off of our original engines and put the same plug in that hole. We both had our original carbs also. I will try and find more cars out there.

I'm trying to get info on Stark Hickey Ford. A friend knows the  owner of the dealership-now Royal Oak Ford- but said it has gone through a few renovations and he doubts they have anything left from that era. Pete, I see Stark isn't one of the dealerships and over time tried to get info on it and am trying again since he asked me a long time ago.

Thanks for the offer!

I have adjusted the information regarding the vacuum tree on a 1970. If more information becomes available, I can always adjust it some more if needed. There is obviously a small pool of cars to look at there

I was surprised on when looking at SAAC NV site that most(?) of the 70 GT350 4 speed cars had air on them. Could it be a disproportionate amount of  70s were air cars? I never asked Vinny a number on these as a total break down. According to my Marti report only 23  CR 4 speed verts(not sure how many wide ratio but has to be a couple at best) so then an air to no air vert. There were 144 4 speed FBs with 30 of them being wide ratio cars.  So you are looking at 167 4 speed GT350s in 70 not counting possibly a few more in the wide ratio trans variety. Of the 3 BaT 4 speed GT350s all had air. So possibly less than 100 70 GT350 no air cars made?

Great info Pete as I happen to have a 1969 GT350 4-speed vert that needs some stuff put back to stock.

Thanks!

Nice work on the dealers, very hard to find info on them.  I am still looking for info on Cutter Ford in Anaheim (I think).  Is there any out there?

If you cannot find info on Cutter Ford in California, try the Cutter Ford in Hawaii.  The family still owns a couple of various dealerships here, sold of the rest of the ones here and in California when the next generation took over.  The daughter now owns/runs the Cutter Ford in Aiea and may have some information on the formerly owned locations.

Re: Cutter Ford Sales, I trust you meant in North Hollywood? At 5500 Lankershim Blvd. to be precise.

It's (sadly) hard to come by, at least for me. My '66 GT 350H was shipped there on 9/26/67 after it's duty with Hertz, and I've been looking for dealership crumbs ever since I got the car in 1976! Jim Cowles finally located this license plate frame for me several years ago, and I found this original (blue copy) invoice from Cutter Ford to Shelby American at LAX on eBay awhile ago. Other than occasional images encountered during internet searches, like this ad in a 1967 Santa Barbara race program, that's been about it for me:

I also found this Shelby American Franchised Dealers list ^^^^ somewhere a long time ago, and you can see Cutter Ford listed on it. The bottom of the last page said "Revised 4/4/69".

I would still love to find a nice period image of the dealership (in 1966!!) though, and my hope of ever locating any Cutter Ford paperwork having to do with my car is nothing but a long held pipe dream of mine, I'm sure.

Please contact me if you ever find anything, and I'll do the same for you. Good Luck!!

Kieth

Thanks yes, that's the one. My '64 1/2 K code was delivered there, and of course Connie's pink Shelby was too.  Good to see some info and trinkets from it.

It looks like in 1975 the dealership became Universal Ford.

Currently Sunrise Ford is in that location

Found this, re: Cutter Ford. The photo, poor quality looks like a screen grab, must be '67, that T-bird is I think a '67.

And some other info on the dealer.

Didn't look but the dealer photo is probably on Coral Snake's site.
