That same year I paid 99 cents a gallon for gas at the gas station. A year later I had to pay $1.99 a gallon. I was starving because my apartment rent was a fixed price and I had to drive to and from work.
It's even worse now, I paid $5 a gallon today ($4.99.9 actually) for diesel. IF you are rich I hope you can afford these Bidenflation times but I sure can't.

I recall the rapid price increases during the oil embargo of the early '70s that caught many gas stations with old pumps by surprise. The mechanical meter only went up tp $.99 and/or the total maxed at $9.99. So the prices went to per liter instead of per gal. (that only scientists in the U.S. undertood) until the upgraded pumps came out and stations could afford to buy them. 8)

In SoCal, some of those old pump stations changed the price so what was rung-up on the pump was actually one tenth of the real price. So if you pumped $2.00, it meant you owed them $20. 15 cents a gallon on the pump was really $1.50.
Other stations did a similar thing, but used one-half instead of one-tenth.
So just because the interest rate was as bad as the democrap carter years as it is in the biden democrap year now we should feel good? As tool Time would say...."HUUUUUUUHHHHHHHH"?!?!?!?!!?Oh "Stop Making Sense".....name the band!

Inflation??? Look no further than the "Parts For Sale" section here on the SAAC Forum. You and I have been in this "Hobby" for how long? (Early to mid 70's). For some even longer. I find it difficult to believe what some folks charge or ask for, for car parts these days.
Wait until the day comes when (at least I) decide to unload or downsize my/our collections of "stuff". We'll do okay.
My wife would rather have me start sooner than later, otherwise if something were to happen to me, she said she would just call a scrap metal recycling Co and just haul this stuff away.
That day of unloading is coming.

Earl, my wife said pretty much the same thing. I have been selling a few things over the last couple of years. A few more parts in the garage to finish packing up now. Right about 1974 is when I started working on my Mustang and buying parts.

I've been selling used basic stuff here to clear space after a shop move. Sucks to keep buying shelves to just look at stuff sitting there. Selling nearly everything I list. Just sold a used Dash pad. Looked up the cost of a new one bought in the UK. I almost fainted. Sold it in ten seconds along with nice used door cards. Best time I have ever seen to clear shelves. Stock availability and current prices make used parts at 1/2-1/4 new prices very attractive.
I just used another of my previously paid £40 for, petrol tanks. I don't even want to look at the new prices.

How much did you put towards the down payment? Do you have a photo's from when you bought it, they would be cool to see.
Closed on a mortgage in 81' at 16.4% .... wouldnt close until that days rate was announced...
I had trouble getting my fellow union workers to understand a 6% raise under Carter was bad when inflation was 11% and a 4% under Reagan was good when inflation was 2%.
