Title: My 90 year old father wants a 2016 Shelby GT H
Post by: deathsled on June 12, 2018, 09:19:04 AM
He is set on getting one. My question is (aside from it being a rental) are there any known problems with the 2016 Mustang and it's Coyote engine? Though 90 he still does his own oil changes. Should not be too much car for him. You're never too old to have a happy childhood.

Best regards,

Richard E.

Just do it!!

Coyote is a good motor.  Try to find one that hasn't been wrecked and repaired.  Sadly, I don't think they made them in red.

His "orders" are that I am to fly to California with a cashiers cheque (Canadian spelling) buy one and trailer it back to Chicago at which point I am instructed to drive it to him in Canada. I rented one and was blown away but wondering what problems await with a throttle body issue and AC issues but they should be easily corrected though.

Hope I am still driving my 2007 Shelby GT when I am 90. Gee, I hope that I am able to drive anything at that age!

He hasn't aged like one would usually expect. He recently bought a smart phone and has figured out voice to text when he texts me. He takes no medication and boasts that his blood pressure is 120 over 80 and asks what mine is. He just got back from his cottage. He was up there cutting down trees by himself. Its a bit concerning because I'm not in Toronto to keep an eye on him. If he wants the car I'll go get it.

Good luck with the find.  Sounds like a fun family project.  You can gt more info on the 2016 GTH sometimes on the Team Shelby web site as that group tends to favor later model Shelby named cars.  I had a fun renting the GTH once the original silly rental fees dropped. 8)

My dad, 82 called me a while back...bought a Z06.  We were safe as he can't drive a manual. I suffered through it though.

Good luck with you Dad.  Sounds like a guy I would like to meet

Cheers  Peter

rich

do it, the car is tame but can be a handful. lots of fun to drive with what shelby american did to them . great brakes, interior, ac , sound system and accessories as they come fully loaded. coyote nearly bullet proof .we will in the near future be going to 750 hp
remember this is not a ford svt (nothing wrong with svt they are also great cars ) car, this is a shelby american car with its own csm #
do it

Change of plans. We found a black and red striped 2013 Laguna Seca Boss 302 with 8,000 miles on it. Its bad ass with a six speed manual. That will be the car. A little more stout than the GTH and IS on the admissible list into Canada...more developments later...

If it's a defective six speed he'll throw it out and get another transmission. I've read that they need to be warmed up. Every car has an Achilles heel somewhere it seems...but thanks for the heads up!

The ad says it has a Tremec in it. Maybe the owner threw out the MT 82 already. Problem solved. If not my dad will be sure to dump the MT 82 if it has issues. Told him to put some Ford Racing lowering springs on it and different rims to make the car his own.

If he lowers it, consider this, it is a game changer on the S197 chassis.

There are fancier versions but this is inexpensive, easy to mount, reversible and works.

Thanks for the input. Lowering will be the way to go.

The Watts Link replaces the Panhard bar and keeps the axle centered under car as well as lowering the roll center. Panhard bar jacks the axle to one side when driven hard.

It combined with lowering springs will give the best results.

You can do even more if you replaced the upper control arm with a torque arm. It can get crazy but there is still room for improvement

It's bought. See The Lounge for pics. Coming out of Maryland. Going to trailer to Chicago. Will need to be fitted with daytime running lights to meet Canadian ridiculous standards. Other than that, their own documents say it is admissible into Canada...
