What is the original location of the coil on 68 small block?
Does it vary depending car having AC, automatic, 4spd, or thermactor system?
Or original cast iron intake w/Ford carb or Cobra intake w/Holley carb?

Typically on top of the intake. The is a threaded hole for the coil bracket bolt.
Hope this helps illustrate the comments above

Great info as always, thanks
The issue here is dealers were involved in refitting some cars with aluminum intakes.
At that point, all uniformity was lost

Great thing to mention and the reason I stuck with the iron intakes for the shots :)
Since the later S7MS and S2MS (large number later 67 up version) aluminum intakes have the same coil mount provision as the cast iron intake it was the obvious logical choice for dealers to mount it in the same place. With that said as has been mentioned anomalies happened.

Was going to add to my earlier post return when I got home but you got to it first. :)
