I have a friend that lives in Western North Carolina and is looking to have his '66 K code Mustang restored. Any recommendation close by would be greatly appreciated.

When you are talking restoration "where" goes out the window. There are many "restorers" but only a few that really know their stuff. The devil is in the details. If your friend is looking to have his car spruced up that's one thing but if he's willing to spend the time and money on a truly restored award winner then it's likely the guy won't be in his backyard. Since it's a Mustang check over at MCA for a recommendation on K restorers they know will do a good job.
6T6SHELBY are your asking about having a 65 or 66 Mustang done?
Since Charles is close I think he would be a great place to start and even end up if things are a good match. In recent past he restored and showed a 65 Mustang Convertible in MCA's Thoroughbred class very very successfully. He was MCA National Head Judge for many years and a Gold Card for 65-66s for that club also. His experience is not limited to just Mustangs so still a good place to start if you want/need to stay close.
As mentioned before, allot depends on what "restored" means to you and your intended goal as well as planned usage. For ease of contact you should be able to PM Charles directly through this forum :)

I emailed Tony Conover a few days ago about some work, he said they're scaling back on restorations, pretty much just mechanical work. Too bad, he's done some beautiful restorations.
I know they're in Virginia, but Brant really likes Maple Hill Restoration. From what I've seen, they do really nice work.
I do not think there is anyone in East Tenn?
