Title: 69 GT500 quarter scoops
Post by: kasearch@ix.netcom.com on February 14, 2023, 02:10:34 PM
When installing the side scoops on the quarter panels, what is used as a sealer/adhesive in addition to the clips and screws?

Clear silicon just enough to be seen most of the time.

A couple of examples. Of course the product ages and does not look like it originally did 50 years ago

Same product was used on end caps to body seam

Hope this helps

Mr Speegle is correct, the silicone works well to seal out moisture and water if you daily drive your car.

We originally applied the silicone but opted to remove the application for a cleaner look on the scoops.

Probably because the scoops didn't fit the contour worth a crap. On my vert I put an NOS one on one side and spent a lot of time fitting them  to the body with the flange studs. Lots of filing and fitting for a really clean look without any water problems.

The 67 and 68 scoops typically used sealant too.

Well ones I have had never fit the greatest in some cases. Unless your car has original paint how do you know someone else didn't make a better fit?

Some fit great, some did not. Just like the hoods: some bowed a lot, some bowed a little, while some are perfect. Luck of the draw.
