Yes what a loss, but you have to admit the quality of all the games has been stupendous. The atmosphere and over all comradirary of the fans has been great
It's a shame that a few have been enjoying these. Today and in the past we have seen great plays and great players.
One of my favorites is/was el señor Chico Escuela. A fellow honorary Miamian, Chico was probably the best of the best.
I at the time was the president of the Miami chapter of the Chico Escuela Fan Club. I will share some of my memorabilia with everyone and our official club shirt.
And always remember his response (as he would say) "to when they would speak to me in American" ;
"Besabal been bera bera good to me"

Ah yes Chico would have been in the hall of fame today if it wasn't for the book he wrote :
Chico would, at 41, attempt a comeback with the Mets, the team he had scandalized in his book "Bad Stuff About The Mets."
Some excerpts, in Chico's words:
"Tom Seaver always take up two parking space . . . "
"Yogi Berra is bera, bera bad card player . . ."
" Ed Kranepool, he always borrow Chico's soap and never return it."
Sad but true this great player held back for expressing himself freely.
Another great player Pete "Hit King or Charlie Hustle" Rose is another individual that should be in the hall of fame, but that is a topic of another post

Funny that you mention that, I as former president of his fan club we would get many fan letters stating his similarities to Sam Kinison.

Let me tell you what the USA pulled off was no easy task.
Being in a hostile foreign (Miami) territory and winning on Saturday and then again Sunday was as close to a miracle as I have ever seen
Saturday 9 to 7 win vs Venezuela with probably 70% of that stadium full of south, central Americans and Caribbean population was amazing
Sundays blow out of Cuba 14-2 with a sold out crowd and that crowd being close to 90% mostly again Hispanic and Caribbean decent was phenomenal !
Now what I don't understand is why security was searching everyone, taking away water bottles, snacks, vuvuzelas, horns etc.
But not the big conga drums. These conga drums can be hurled down into the crowd and probably knock out half the bleachers .

Coming up Wednesday USA vs Japan or Mexico.....going to be a great one

I have to hand it to the Japanese fans, a pleasure to converse with and share these moments with them.
They are so disciplined, courteous, gracious and well mannered.
And no Big Papi is not a grown up Chico Escuela ......

This had to be one of the best tournaments that we have seen in a very long time. Kudos to all the teams that participated.
Last nights final game was played phenomenally by both teams.
Team USA played their hearts out and Team Japan outpitched the United States star-studded offense to win their third World Baseball Classic with a final score of 3 to 2.
