Brian....Excellent job as always!!.... ;D

Yes, great job compiling the results.

I was surprised as well.

Yea thanks that makes it easy to follow for sure ,& damn that Paxton 67 GT350 went to the moon at $632 does that include the 10% buyer fee & was that expected ?
-
Are prices overall somewhat down some across the board? Any opinions?

No saying it about this specific group of cars but it can often not be about the market but the cars offered in the auction and the stories or history related. IMHO can't judge a market from a couple of cars at an auction. Just a thought

The Black Cherry Hertz XR7-G sold for 55k.
Very worn but nice foundation for a refurbishing.

Those were done by Ao Smith right?
The broadcast said by ASC which I don't believe is correct

Agreed. My observation was not meant to be a reflection of the market as a whole, just the cars at this auction.
Also, I personally know one of the cars that didn't sell, and it was a great car - well known car. That surprised me but seeing that the other two 65s were super low was also interesting.
I will say this: I've seen basket case 65 GT350s sell privately for almost the same money in the past year. Crazy indeed!

Yes, G conversions were executed at Smith.
G's slated for sunroofs were sent to ASC. As a cost saving they attempted to install the sunroofs at Smith but it didn't work out :P
The description by Mecum for the G was poorly researched. Very frustrating having misinformation continue to be propagated.

Thanks
I knew AO Smith was involved

Too many’65s in one auction, not 2 bidders on each car, uncertain economic times, and car quality are variables that impacted those auctions IMHO

I used to think too many of same car would hurt the numbers until Mecum Kissimmee 2023 when they sold 17 Dodge Daytona/Pymouth Superbirds crossed the block in a couple days for good numbers

Agreed. The pure number of similar cars doesn't always impact the value from what I've seen.
Also, in this same auction (Mecum Indy 2023) we saw a blue 66 GT350 with a repro tag (amongst other things) sell for $308K all in.
Somethings cannot be explained. :(

Never, over the decades, have I ever attended an auction and not gone away with mixed feelings and results both up and down market.

Any chance you might be willing to put me in contact with the the owner of the 65 that didn't sell? I'm looking for a 65.

Which one? BTS65Shelby had one that didn't meet it's reserve. Nice car. I saw it up close as I know the owner. https://www.mecum.com/lots/561643/1965-shelby-gt350-fastback/

443 looks like a top notch car and 459 looks great too. Either cars would suit me well and I'd be ecstatic to own either car.
I'd also be really happy to own a survivor car that had a clean history, some nice documentation, a few bumps and bruises and a current owner who would be willing to pass their pride and joy on to the next caretaker. That would be me. I'm the guy who would drive it and share with everyone for the next 30 years. I'd drive it with delight on those glorious summer Sundays to the grocery store and the occasional car show.
Whatever car finds its way to my home is just fine, I'd just like to put a 65 GT 350 next to my 68 GT500.

There is one way I was shown by BTS65Shelby on car #342 to see if it had the original body(not guaranteed but something that has been looked over on rebodies). I happened to be by the "hustle for the Muscle" collection with him and his mechanic looking over that collection. You should message him about his car and the other that didn't meet it's reserve. I brought 5S459 to Mecum for my friend from NY. I don't know what happened with 65s (and 66s for that matter) at Mecum but obviously it doesn't represent the market at large. Or, at least it illustrates that three 65s at one auction may homogenize the result starting with what the first car does or does not do on the block? I looked at 443 and it appeared to be a very honest car with a failing older repaint (including the engine compartment) and undecoating. But I loved the originality, Blue Dot spare, etc. It is the kind of car I like to drive. 459 is also a very good car and I believe it has found a new home, just waiting for it to return from Mecum so it can be sold. But just think- 1 tired Hemi Challenger = 3 1965 GT350s! Lol
