Title: Paxton maintenance reccomendations
Post by: zray on September 05, 2018, 04:30:03 PM
For the vintage PaxtonThe best type F is the synthetic version of B&M Trick Shift

the 2nd best is the conventional B&M Trick Shift

These products are NOT additives, but a stand alone type F fluid.

my last Paxton had 75,000 + miles on it with ZERO maintenance other than changing the  synthetic B&M fluid fluid at every oil change. Numerous high speed endurance runs on the course of the Big Bend Open Road Race, 53 miles each way @ maximum rpm 95% of the time.

A fluid cooler was also installed.  If you have a  vintage Paxton, using the synthetic B&M in conjunction with a fluid cooler is the way to keep it from wearing out. At the time I sold the Paxton, I sent it to Craig C to have it checked out. He reported it had no wear and needed nothing.

Double check fit before cutting radiator support for filter opening. Some (if not all) templates are way off

Rick,
I am trying to get some time to give MrBill a bunch of info on original paxtons in original Shelby's and mustangs.
All are 65-67, S/B and B/B.

Always wanted to consolidate everything in one spot, gauges, air cleaners, carb enclosure's too.
Hope to get time in the future, been working with the Revs Institute/Collier museum on the Speedster. Great progress.
GT 350-1281, some were installed with the air cleaner facing down, no hole cut in Radiator support, just saying.

That is a 30 year project, so I need to dig in while the door is open, supposed to be a scholar to be allowed, but they made allowance for a pea brain>> ha
With respect,
John

Thanks for taking the time to share all this info with us, Rick. What does a Paxton look like inside? Someone said something like a ball? How much boost do they add? Were these installed by the factory or only by dealers upon/after delivery? What was the price new, from '65-'70 (if offered on the '69-'70 models)?

That's a whole lot of questions to answer in a single reply. Try searching "Paxton" and see what shows up in older threads.
Since I've been on your side of asking questions more often than not, I'll attempt to answer a few of these.

According to the 2011 SAAC registry for 65-67 Shelby's there was only one Paxton prototype built by Shelby American (SA) in 1965, 5s425. In 1966 another prototype was built on 6s051. It was Ivy Gold (Dark Green) and the only one that the factory added the "S" letter for Supercharger in the side stripes as "GT350S". Another 10 were 10 made for '66 in production. By 1967 the factory number increased up to 35 units with another 4 dealer installed.
According to the 2014 SAAC registry for 68-70 Shelby's nothing is noted on the production figures page for Paxton's.

In 1967 it was a $479.00 invoice charge and a $549.00 window sticker cost.

Rich,
There apparently were more Paxton Shelby's then I realized.
1 in 1965.
1 with an S designation and then 10 more?
35 in 1767, with 4 more dlr installed.

These are shelby notes?
Production figures?
John

Hi John,

Yes, this is straight out of the 2011 registry, page 35 lists al the production figures with VIN numbers for each of the Paxton cars.

Page 721, has a letter dated 4/18/1966 about the '66 GT350 S.
Page 733 -738 has an article on the '66-'67 Paxton Shelby's with a few B&W photos and a few more letters from SA.

I believe it was recently discussed on the forum that one of the 35 factory '67's was cancelled, so perhaps only 34 of those...38 in total for 1967.
