I needed a little cheering up yesterday, so I went do my favorite thing besides discussing Shelby's. My local watch dealer showed me a Tag Heuer with a Gulf livery and I thought you all might find it interesting.
I wonder how many of these actually sell?
$5,900 for the Monaco edition that actually has a Gulf logo rather than just colors.
A watch passed into posterity thanks to the Le Mans movie in which Steve McQueen, driving his Porsche 917 bearing the Gulf colors, carries a TAG Heuer Monaco 1133B Caliber 11 on his wrist.
Revisited for this special edition, its iconic blue sunray dial features the emblematic blue and orange Gulf racing stripes. A calfskin perforated blue strap, with orange stitching, completes the very racing look of the watch inspired by the King of Cool and his famous blue and orange sports car.
I'm not a big TAG fan, but that watch is WAY cool!
BTW - I didn't know you were a watch guy, Brian. :D

I am a watch man too Brian, nice collection BTW
My anniversary model Daytona says Lorex - should I be worried?

Looks like I missed the boat...I haven't worn a watch since I informed my supervisor that I was retiring...over 51/2 years ago :o

Ha, the pic wasn't mine, I do wish. I only have a handfull compared to that guy.
We had this discussion on 1.0 I think that watches are going the way of the bow tie, wing tip shoes, fat stogie smokin bosses, pay phones and the rest of it. I have not worn a special watch since the Reagan era. With modern cars and cell phones, its always telling us what time it is. Since I had-was-used all the items mentioned before, I guess I am over it and moving on to the next big thing. No man buns though. ;D
...from the sublime to the ridicules...
(some of you may be too young to remember this - hint there was also a Presidential model)

One of the reasons we didn't have an elected President during the Bi-centennial. He resigned, Ford got appointed as VP, Nixon resigned, Ford became President the only one who was not elected to the office.
These watches are wonderful. However, in this day and age, fewer can read a watch or clock face to tell you the time. It all started with those darn self-winding time pieces. Soon we will have cars that will be self driving too. I am becoming a robot.

Time is a man made construct.

YES!
My watches are digital. You have to wind them with your fingers! 8)
8) my kind of watch
I tried an autonomous watch that was a mini-sundial strapped to my wrist. Too hard to adjust at night under a street light. Time was rarely correct.
I have a yellow faced Tag Formula One. It has served me well thus far. The Monaco is a legendary timepiece however. Real ones are astronomical. The reissue ones are quite choice though.
As an addendum, I wonder how the Baume et Mercier Capeland Cobra watches have sold and overall quality. I've thought about acquiring but can't bring myself to do it. At least not yet.
The first edition (blue face) Cobra watches with special case and book seemed to be all sold out. The next batch of black dial ones are still available for the past years, mostly without the book and special case.

They gave one of the first ones to Bondo at the Shelby Bash in Vegas when they were introduced. Not being mercenary here but the school is in dire straights so maybe it's available.

They are nice watches but I'd rather spend the money on red to see to her needs as the male provider of her every whim. I'm happy to do it.
