Title: Question about 1968 paint
Post by: 442w30 on January 13, 2019, 11:31:22 PM
Hi . . . I'm researching some Ford colors and need some help.

I saw a website that showed 6 special-edition Shelby GT colors for 1968, with the bulk being yellow, three being orange, one red, and one green.

One of the colors matches "Flower Power Red" on this page:

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipdisplay.cgi?year=1968&manuf=Ford&smodel=Comet&info=&page=34

http://mustangattitude.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?manuf=Ford&model=Mustang&con=moy&year=1968&page=1&rows=50

It has paint code 5185. The guy who runs the website, who was very nice (and may be a member here), says it's the same as Calypso Coral.

However, that very same paint site shows Calypso Coral as being 1730:

http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?make=Mercury&year=1968&con=ky&rows=50

From the codes themselves, it would seem it was a different color, albeit very similar to the eyes. I simply need a second opinion to confirm the gentleman's assertion (if not my confusion), so I'm hoping someone here would be better versed than I am.....thank you!

Diego

If the person you are alluding to is named "Pete", and the web site "coralsnake" you can take his information to the bank and forget about anything else you read elsewhere  8)

By all means get a second opinion.....

I believe these are all the same color:

Poppy Red, WT 5185, Calypso Coral, Compettion Orange, Flower Power Red, Vermillion.

I've credited the Coral Snake website.
