Some of you may enjoy this story I came across. Last night I was searching the web for photos from when Lance Reventlow occupied 1042 Princeton Drive (just before Shelby started building cobras there). A photo of what looked like a dark green 65 GT350 popped up. I followed the link to an acoustic guitar forum.
The following info was noted by "mdunn" the current owner; These photos were taken in the spring of 1967. The car is SN# 5s087 painted by the original owner dark metallic green to match his Oldsmobile convertible.
Dunn was a student at the U of AZ. At the time, the GT350 owner lived in another apartment in his complex. The original owner was from PA and would drive it home in the summers. One fall, on the way back to AZ they ran into him in OK. Their route back to AZ took them through El Paso, TX. They decided to take a detour into Mexico looking for some provocative Mexican girls.
When the '65 GT350s lease ran out the original owner returned it to the dealer for a '68 GT350. The dealer's son was the next owner. He had it for a short time before Dunn acquired it. Dunn reported it is still that green metallic color to this day (posted 8/22/2016).
Also in the photo is another GT350 in the original white. It is SN# 5s222 owned by a fraternity brother of Dunn's. The Cobra was owned by another student John Hornberg. Hornberg's father was a Jaguar importer in the west.

Wow, Love that green.
Those guy's college experience was a stark contrast to my own.
did you send this info to the saac registrars>?
Interesting that painting a car under lease was allowed?? Imagine doing a color change on a leased BMW these days... dealer would freak.
Great pictures. I would love to know what number the Cobra is!
It does look good in the Black Jade kinda color.
Great photo find! Nice going.

That's the first thing I thought of as well. These days forget it.
Are those Goodyear Speedway 350's on that 1966 car?

One of my Professors was from Budapest, Hungary. He didn't particularly like us even though we could have been described as living the American dream?
The problem was that when you go to "University" in Europe (at least then, late '60s) students literally were starving. Here we were 'bitchin' about the cost of gas, how we were getting ripped off paying 49.9 for Super Shell. He didn't like us and really liked to show that.
Now there are two 289 Cobras that I know of that went to two of the biggest "party schools" in the country. UAz and U Miami. One of the schools I applied to was Miami. The 'old man' saw right through that and it got the kabosh really really fast.
Yeah, I did the European method.
For 8 long years.
Lol! I married the European method. THREE TIMES! And believe me, third time was not a charm. I had fun however, "Hearing the lamentation of their women."
5S081 here and I went to Univ of Arizona! Of course I didn't have my shelby then... But I did have a Toyota Supra Twin Turbo MKIV, the 90s hotrod back in the day at school. Good times
