This is the housing I modified and re-textured to look like the C7AE-A until I located my NOS a few years ago. It's quite a bit of work, especially the file work and re-texturing it to look like cast aluminum where all the filing and shaping was done. It even has the "dimple" on the end. I'm putting this one up for sale.
To all but the trained eye it looks the part.

The texture was restored with a nail point and a jeweler's hammer. The point of the nall is used hundreds of times, then it's bead blasted.

I thought a heavy sand blast with high pressure might give it that final patina >>> and the final touch.

There was a little bitof shaping to maintain the ring around the hose outlet with a dremel steel cutter as well. It is not a simple job to get it right. The housing also is the made from the ford unit that has the boss for the vacuum fitting, but it wasn't drilled and tapped.

What is the visible differences between a C6AE-A and the C8AE-8594-B and is the C6 marked like the C8 is?

I think you mean C7AE-A . Typo by the OP. They look similar except the C7AE engineering number and the C7AE does not have the boss for the vacuum tree like the C8 version. All other details the same.
Bob, you wouldn't have a picture of the Drake repro would you? I figure if I find a NOS it's more likely a Drake part?

Sorry I never kept a picture of the drake repro. I think it only had C7AE of the C7AE 8594 A engineering number . The letter and number style was odd too.
I appreciate the reply. I wouldn't expect to find either, an original or a repop easily but being able to identify an original is important both historically and financially.
The ironic thing may be that the Drake part may be as rare as an original?
