Title: Name your favorite 'dream part' that you are currently searching for?
Post by: BGlover67 on April 19, 2019, 11:24:52 AM
I think most people have a rare part or two they are always on the look out for.  For instance, I'm always keeping an eye out for a Dec/Jan '66/67 Hipo distributor for my friend Nick.  I also searched for quite a while for an early one piece slanted grill for an early 1967 Shelby.  I probably would have had a better chance finding the one eyed unicorn recently spotted in California.    :)

What is the single hardest to find part you are currently chasing?  List it here and perhaps the Shelby gods may shine down on you and someone on this forum will fulfill your wish.  I'll start:

1) An assembly line Autolite 22F yellow top battery.  If anyone has one they'd like to part with, I'm all ears.

Anyone else?

True story, may have told it before

Circa 2002-2003 I saw a GT500KR at Carlisle, I inspected the car to the best of my ability and wanted it but did not have the funds at the time, It was $25,500 and the seller was a car salesman from a new Ford dealership, his customer/GT500KR owner wanted a Lincoln Navigator and if this salesman sold it, he could then sell the guy the SUV. Achingly rust free, one repaint, Calif car, tons of receipts, I was in love. A month or so later I had the money and rang the guy. Deal was done and I got the car. Only thing I needed was a retractor harness cover. I called everywhere. Perogie laughed, said he had never seen one and would be $500 if he had one. Other people whistled sharply and said good luck. I lived in Orlando florida at the time and on the top of the Automobile section of the Orlando Sentinel newspaper there was always a little section for folks hunting a rare part. I sent an advert in. "Peter is looking for a LH seat belt retractor cover for a 1968 Shelby GT500KR". A few days later I get an email "I got one" I was in disbelief. I ask the guy how he has one. He says he made it. I am disheartened thinking it is going to be made of play doe and will be horrible. I agree to meet him in a gas station and he walks over with a bag of them, I have my other side one to compare and the things are perfect (to me anyway) Ford part number, texture, colour was a bit darker as they were new but he had like 5, I paid him his asking price for one, $25. I was never happier than when I put that cover over my bare retractor. I told Orlando Mustang about this guy and shortly after repro covers were on the market so I assume this guy started supplying them.

The guy had a Shelby replica he built and wanted covers so he made them in his kitchen!!!

Wish I still had that car. I sold it just over a year later as I was moving to the UK. Sold in Charlotte NC at the Autofair to the only guy who was after it all weekend. $39k.

Cheers. Peter

Dana Chevrolet is the dealership that Peyton Crammer with a partner purchased after he was turned down by Ford for a dealership and after his exit from  Shelby following the 66 Hertz program. It became the famous equivalent of Motion, Baldwin, Nickey, Yenko of the western US.

A post on another forum that shows a three page article from 67 describing the dealership during it first year or so plus a bunch of additional pictures and info of the famous dealership

They covered drag racing, road racing and Trans Am entries during the late 60's backing cars like Z/28 Trans Am car, the 427 Camaro drag car, the 427 street cars, the ELVA, Cam AM and the L88 Corvette LeMans race car.

Peyton Cramer finally got a Lincoln Mercury dealership from Ford. Guess they got tired of him making $$$ for GM. Ya gotta love a dealership that offers street race prep.
