Title: retirement
Post by: csheff on September 24, 2019, 05:38:34 AM
Well sitting here at work on my last day going thru the forum. Just won't be the same, but at least I'll have more time to look at home. The feeling is awesome.

It's been great for me. I sleep when I want, go where I want to,go and I have time to drive the Shelby when ever I want. A big plus, they missed me so much at work they hired me back as a contractor part time working from home. No meetings, no long commute, and I get paid very well.
The biggest problem with retirement is remembering what day is it?
Congrats on the new part of life, enjoy every bit of it, it's awesome 😎

Congrats! I have what seems a looooong way to go to get there. Maybe it won't happen. I never assume too much.

I started working on the "I'll get to it when I retire" list when I called it quits 4 years ago.  I haven't made a dent!  Don't get me wrong.  I've been busy but for everything I cross off 2 more get added!
Then there's the "honey-do" list.  Just thinking about that makes me want to go back to sleep!  I have major problems with the day of the week also.  Thank you, cell phone, for staying by my side.  But retirement is great!  I was a pharmacist, both manager and staff, for many years.  I'm glad those days of having my head feel like it was going to explode are gone.

Congratulations!

I've enjoyed mine.  But I was sort of "forced".  I'd not kept up with the ever changing world of computing.  But we were WELL set.  My first year I spent half of it assisting my parents.  They are doing much better this year physically.  But unfortunately my sister was stricken ill and passed away within weeks.  So this year has been spent dealing with her estate.  But there are still 6 Saturdays a week now!  I nap if I want.  Do chores.  Have time to do projects.
For those still working and young people, ALWAYS pay yourself (fund your retirement) FIRST.  That was how I was laid off at 59 and a half and knew I never had to work again.

Congratulations! I joined the ranks 3 months ago and have enjoyed every minute. Have not even started to put a dent into my collector car list with other focus' but there will be time for the cars at some point.

Congrats!  Enjoy your free time and fun drives with your cars on weekdays when the roads are clear and everyone else is slaving away at the office.

Be sure to send the guys at the office a text and a car photo every once in a while to let them know you're doing OK.  ;D

Congrats!  I heartily recommend retirement.  Don't see how we ever got as much accomplished as we did while working.  I've got a long project list with stuff being added every day.  I second the motion for those still employed or who own a business.  Do like Dave Ramsey says: "Live like no one else so you can live like no one else".  In other words, get out of debt and save. Invest in your future so you can enjoy it.

I'm not retired.  I work allot and I'm on the hamster wheel.  The faster I go the faster it spins.

When I was in my mid to late 40's I used to think I would work till I died.  Not because I had to, because I wanted to.

I turned 50 this year and I've really been thinking how good retirement would be.  I don't have to worry about paying the bills and I'm already pretty much set up.  I am slowly throttling it back.  Every time I go to a SAAC convention, a car show, Barrett Jackson or just have a nice conversation with a fellow forum member I always tell myself, "you gotta do this more often".

I know.....life is short......I'll never wish I had worked more when I'm on my death bed......but I gotta tell ya, when I am able to buy a cool car or do what I want without any constraints, it spurs me on to keep working to enjoy the lifestyle.

It's like drinking, it's a hard habit to break and I am somewhat addicted to it.  Perhaps it's just my destiny.  I know I really love the journey and all of you on the SAAC forums help make it that much more enjoyable.

Here's to hopefully retiring soon and here's to you all.  Your retirement stories inspire me.

Congratulations on your retirement!

I also retired 4 months ago in my mid 50s.  Very thankful to get out early with my health.  We bought a small winnebago,  and am finally getting to see our beautiful country without rushing back to work.   Enjoying Maine as I write this.  So much to see and do.

I early retired a few years ago and started doing all the stuff around the house, then I finished them......then started importing Mustangs to sell them in Europe. Now I am working harder and more hours than at any time in my life previously.

Congratulations on your retirement! My first retirement was forced at 38 by the state of CA. 23 surgeries later I couldn't stand it anymore and took out a student loan to go to flight school. I couldn't stand sitting on my fourth point of contact anymore once I was able to recover my health. ( By the Grace of God)
I have been enchanted with the sky since I was a young child.  However, admittedly I would rather be on the flight deck now that standing in the door waiting for a green light to exit the aircraft.

Be sure to stay mentally and physically occupied. Too many don't and it's never good health-wise. My father worked until he was 75. He turned 84 on 17 Sept.

Good luck and God speed in your new endeavor.

QuoteAnother great thing about retirement is Naps, lots of Naps

I have been retired for 6 1/2 years and I haven't taken the first nap... :-[ I still get up around 6:20 and usually go to bed around 10:30-11:00 and stay busy between those times. I too have the tired part perfected. Old habits are hard to break... :)
