Well you know what they say about afterthoughts... They are like after births, not a very pretty thing!  :-[

As much as I do not like it, it's a matter of their survival as a car manufacturer.

I've got no problem with the car. My issue is with the name. Wasn't Falcon, Fairmont or Pinto available?

It is a Brand all it's own. I think they need to cash in on anything they can.

Should have piggy backed it on the Fusion or Futura name.
This electric Mustang looks better, and is already available. LOL

Was this a demand from the empty headed Komrad Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? What idiot came up with this crap. I wound venture to guess this will be as popular as a Yugo.

So what's worse?

1 - Ford has prostituted the Mustang and Mach 1 names

2 - A Mustang-named Electric Vehicle

3 - A four-door Mustang-named vehicle

4 - A Mustang-named SUV

5 - It will be made in Mexico

6 - They may move production to China to reduce costs

7 - The price tag is $49,995 to $61,600

8 - The GT version will produce 429HP and 612 ft-lbs of torque powering it to 0-60 times in the mid three seconds (https://www.foxnews.com/auto/electric-ford-mustang-mach-e) leaving most of our classic ICE cars in the dust

Well frankly, there isn't much made now that won't blow the doors off classic Shelbys right now so why even mention that?

That's ok. I don't like my tupe blowing off?  ;)

Ford is definitely searching for an identity. Scratching for what ties it can to the past for it's direction to the future. It wants to appeal to the mass market yet be exclusive to the exotic crowd. Kind of a conflict if you ask me.

None of those performance numbers on the Machie are bad. Just the Mustang moniker on it has me confused? If they would reconsider on that, I could deal with this better I think. I don't want to be accused of being a never Machie.

Did they poll present and past "Mustang" owners and determine that it's really an SUV that they want/wanted? I often thought that all of the Mustangs would have been a better car if they were hatchbacks. I'm not sure why that was never explored back in '63-4? Perhaps too abstract for the era?

I think the Daytonna Coupe works pretty well as a hatchback? Also, ah-hem, the Corvette as well.

On a related note, was there blow back from the Cobra crowd for Ford's decision to use the Cobra moniker for the 68 Shelby? I believe Carroll had issues with it, but he sold his rights to the trademark back to Ford to settle accounts, right?

Yes. There always was but considering the production numbers of the Cobras they didn't hold much influence at Corporate. In addition, Ford never considered the Cobra a Ford.

Shelby just took the money. In many ways he always was just a figure head.

It's not unusual for Corporations to buy out other products and people as well. For the time, and still today, it's hard if not impossible to fight that kind of money.

David and Goliath is still going on today.

Well, I'm not concerned about 429HP. I'm still 25% over that.  Now if I could just put it to the pavement......

I think everyone should begin referring to this E monstrosity by an appropriate name......E-dsel.....

Or Model E - a throwback to the last century when ICE vehicles dominated EV's the last time around. I'm not convinced that EV's are the future. I know they're not any "greener" than ICE cars today and there are certain categories where they fall seriously short (trucks for example). Without the huge tax breaks they aren't even affordable.
