Title: Rarely seen pics
Post by: Bill on November 28, 2019, 09:36:38 AM
My good friend John sent these to me a few days ago, just found his email and decided to share with you guys/gals.

GT40's are clearly at Le Mans not certain where the Cobra in a pit photo is from.

great photos Bill ! thanks ! I really like those long noses on the GTs  8)

I think the pit photo is Dan Gurney at Daytona 1964, in CSX 2259 see photo below from my files, I'm not sure how many races

they ran that laid back windshield ?

Bill & Honker:  Thanks for posting the GT40 & Cobra pics.  The pic of the Gurney Cobra on the Daytona banks has been my favorite for many years.  I even bought the large Road & Track print of it back in the day.

These photos are on the video documentary "The 24 hour War" or "Shelby American", can't remember which.

Notice the tie rod between the lower & upper windshield frame?  Having the windshield hit you in the face at Daytona speed is a scary thought.  Recall driving a 427 (with the soft top up) at 120+ and there was 1/2" of air between the windshield glass & top frame.  Made a tie rod for it immediately.

Probably to keep them from blowing away. I have to park the wipers on our black car all the way down to the rubber strip under the frame if I plan to drive more than 120 mph. If I forget and go fast the wipers will lift and vibrate a lot.

Yes :Le Mans 1965  ;)
They are painting the circles of the numbers on the doors before the race.

GT 106 with the number 1 (Bruce Mc Laren/Ken Miles) Abandonment at the 45° round   :'(

GT 107 with the number 2 (Phil Hill/Chris Amon) Abandonment at the 89° round  :-\

Ford and Shelby will do better the next year :D

Thank you Bill.
I do have roughly 75 more pictures that I have been uncovered in my research of Ben Harris.
One of the true infant builders of the National SCCA.
Ben was inducted into the Watkins Glen Walk of fame, and will be inducted in full Ceremony next year,
which is also in combination and celebration of the Marque, Jaguar.
My appetite has faded of late and most is on hold, as Bill understands.
Best regards,
John
