I have a question. Were 66 Shelby's issued full ford VINs such as 6F09K?i know they had the SFMS tags but would titles have the ford VIN or the Shelby VIN?
Thanks
Shelby vin. The ford vin is not visible anwhere unless parts are removed. They may have been titled as a Ford GT350 or a Shelby Gt350 or a Shelby Mustang or something else, depending on the state and their capabilities.
Thanks. So just to confirm. The title would have an SFMS number?

Yes, but it will have a 6S prefix, mine is 6S1078 on the title.
Thanks. Who could I talk to to check a FORD VIN to see if it was Shelby? 1966

You would contact Howard Pardee, the 65/66 Registrar. But if the Ford VIN in question starts with a 6FXXXXXX, don't even bother. All '66 Shelby's were made in the San Jose factory and would have an 'R' designation not an 'F'.
My tile says "Ford 2dr" but has t(e shelby serial number SFM6S1431, no Ford number
All 1966 GT350s came with a Ford VIN they started with 5R09K for the carryover cars and 6R09K for the rest of the fastbacks the convertibles would be 6R08K. All cars should be titled to reflect that Shelby American was the manufacturer and not Ford Motor Company. My 66 when first titled in CA Make was listed as GT350 and Body Style as Coupe. A friends 68 GT350 had Cobra listed as make even though by that time they were Ford manufactured.
Thanks guys. It all clear to me now.
Just an FYI. The tag on the drivers door that is held on with two rivets was also removed and deleted.
