I heard an interesting story of 50 special build 1971 Mach 1's with Hemi Heads 429 4 Speeds cars. They were rated at 650bhp
Roumor has it that they were real and had something to do with the real Eleanor 'Gone in 60 seconds' movie
Does anyone have any knowledge of these cars??
Well the original Gone in 60 Second wasn't made in 71 so you can start there
Yes Jeff you're right it looks like it was a 1973 Mach1.
So the question is "Did this 71 429 Hemi head 650bhp" ever exist in a limited number of 50 cars??
Thats easy, ask the guy withe Ford records...K Marti
It does not sound valid to me.
Thanks Pete
Will do if you can give me his email as I just tried to find it on his website but can't seem to find it
Guys,
If you search for movie info online you can find it. Car actually was a 1971 Mustang. Car was stripped of all sheet metal to install a roll cage and other safety features. Movie funding issues caused delays and when sheet metal was reinstalled 1973 parts were used to be as current as possible. There are pictures of car in stripped configuration (bizarre) where I saw this a little while back. It may have been WikiPedia site if you want to have a look.
Also, I'm pretty sure wrecked movie car still exists, runs and drives...
I doubt if (50) special Mustangs were made based on this car. I think movie was released in 1974.

Hi 429rb
I didn't mean to suggest that the movie spawned these suggested cars but im wondering if they had somtheing to with the movie.
Did the 50 cars in this form ever exit? Or are they a myth?
Sorry I dont have an email address for the business

Just bought an original 1971 429 CJ MACH 1 fastback from the second owner - Never been out of Texas - Original paint - Original everything - According to MARTI REPORT only 280 MACH 1's were built w/429-4V non-ram air engine in 1971. 177 of the them had auto transmission. 26 were painted bright red. 8 had white deluxe interior and only 4 of them had a tachometer. It also has factory A/C Selectaire from the factory. - The original window sticker is long with options.
Looks like it was just a rumour.
If I find anything to the contrary ill post the info.
Thanks for all the replies
"ZERO" production '71s ( or later) with Boss 429 engines. A "few" were converted ( Polaris Drag Team for one) for drag racing use. 429 CJ and SCJ YES as noted above.
