Title: 10 spokes from factory
Post by: shelbymann1970 on January 06, 2020, 01:54:12 PM

The Marti report is the Ford record, it would not be shown.

I also do not think "3" is accurate

The cars that did receive them were all exported. Its indicated on the invoices

There were five invoiced with them, all for export. Three to Spain. Two to Japan.

I don't think that Marti has data on exported cars. Only domestic.

Kevin has info for cars that were exported what they typically don't show is the dealer but rather the routing/shipping from address on the ones I have copies of. Speaking of Mustangs and others exported in 68 and other years

As for 68 Shelbys I'm unsure if Ford knew which cars were going to be exported when they were assembled at NJ like they would ahve for Mustangs and other Ford products built there. On those the country was often shown on the buck tag.

Pretty sure those cars were not predetermined exports

There was mention in some of the factory papers of an"export package". I don't know how that affected the Shelby package, if at all though.

Thanks guys for the info. Every once in a while I run across sellers who claim their 68 came from the FACTORY with 10 spokes. We are talking USA delivered Shelbys. There was one on BaT that had period correct wheels on it and the seller claimed they came that way as they were an "option" on 68 Shelbys and quoted the "Shelby registry". When I asked which registry I never got an answer. Then there is always that guy who says 68-70 Shelbys are not "real" but that is getting off topic.Gary

That demonstrates pure ignorance. Ask that guy how much he thinks Shelby was involved building the 65-67 production cars?
:o

The effort was about the same. Shelby was concentrating on other things, like racing.

Well if you read the comments I posted on this 68 Shelby one of the guys pretty much discounting our cars(68-70s) uses the SAME HANDLE on THIS site. I linked to Brian Styles' 67 Shelby vert page that show Ford's involvement in the 67s from Oct 66 on. He has his beliefs(he is a 67 Shelby owner).   I actually used your name in one of the posts.  8)  Feel free to amuse yourself. I think you can figure out who I am on BaT. I read it as just a pissing contest. Probably all their NFL teams are out playing golf for the year and they can't get through on the sports talk radio stations? Lots of frustration in the US and folks need to vent somehow?

My son just quit playing hockey. Too many jerks wanting to take out his knees because their jobs suck and can't say anything about it.

You know things are going from bad to worse when a fella quits playing hockey because it's getting too rough!  :o

Personally, I find the whole "more Ford than Shelby" and "more Shelby than Ford" concept fascinating.

Maybe someone could create a infographic that spells this out in detail for me, year by year?

Well if it was NHL, then you get paid even if you have a cast on your knee. Others need to go to work the next day. With a cast, you would at least need to switch to an automatic transmission.

Then one thing would lead to another. The next thing you would be switching to hub caps. Then sunglasses at night.

It's nasty out there.  ;)

It's a stale arguement in my opinion. One could easily make the case the later cars are way cooler, than the cars built with old taxi cab motors.

Mine was a rhetorical question, of course.

I'll throw this out there. The guy is oldcanuck on our forum. Since he has BLOCKED me from messaging him here on the SAAC forum(a while ago) maybe you can ask his to explain who "WE" are. you'll see it in his posts on the 68 Shelby for sale on BaT.  Gary

I always thought my car was "way cooler" but that is my opinion brought forth by my tastes. I have had my Vert since 1985. What I paid for it I could have bought any year Shelby at that time. Money wise I should have bought a 65 Shelby or a BB Gt500 vert which didn't cost more than my car when bought(before the BB craze of 87) but I wasn't buying as an investment. I bought what I loved and still own it to this day while stable mates of Boss 302s, Boss429s , Gt500s and many 69 CJ/SCJ Mach1s had come and gone. I love all year Shelbys but bought my vert when I found it. If it would have been a BB vert I would have bought it. As a matter of fact my friend Kurt Frederickson beat me to his 69 GT500 vert by a few hours or that would be my car today. He still owns his car out in Vegas now. Gary
