1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Red 1970 fastback 0n ebay
August 21, 2023, 04:49:52 PM
I was alerted today that my 1970 GT 500 red fastback, which I bought in 2022 on BAT, is currently for sale on eBay! I took a look and the listing even uses the BAT photos! Seller does not list a VIN. Pass the word that this is a scam listing.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / 70 GT 500 muffler
July 07, 2023, 05:51:32 PM
I need a new muffler for my 70 GT 500. Possibly new pipes as well. Where is best source for that? It presently has the original exhaust system and I want to stay with similar reproductions. Tks!

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / 70 Radio Bezel
March 26, 2023, 06:09:53 PM
My 70 GT500 came with an aftermarket radio. It originally had an am/8 track. I found a D1ZA 19A242 am/8 track which I think should be correct.  The car also came with a new radio bezel still in the bag. Here's my problem: the radio opening in the bezel is 4"w x 2"h, but the part of the radio that should slide into that opening is 4.5"w x 2.75"h. What am I missing? Does the am/8 track require a different bezel?

The accelerator pedal assembly on my 70 GT500 has a bushing on both sides of the pivot rod where the rod enters the bracket. Those were worn out, so I bought a new one from CJ Pony. It was listed as a 69 Mustang part, but I was told by a Shelby guy that all were the same. It only has a bushing on one side and just the rod thru a non-bushing hole on other side. Probably will be fine, but why even do that? Why a bushing on just one side? Anyone know of the correct part being available before I send this one back?

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Gas pedal catch
November 10, 2022, 03:48:44 PM
Ok, this is is a weird one. My gas pedal has a catch to it just off idle. Really annoying as it makes car lurch from a stop.  I thought it was the cable, so I replaced that. No improvement. Disconnect the cable and pedal operates smoothly. No interference with air cleaner. Suggestions?

Before I get started changing the plugs, can anyone give me tips on how they have done it? I've read everything from swivel sockets, 3' extensions, rubber hoses, needing small hands, standing on your head, etc, etc. Can somebody that's done this condense the procedure into useful steps? My car is a '70 GT500. Tks.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Air Cleaner Snorkle
September 27, 2022, 10:22:32 AM
I have the original air cleaner with the snorkle on my 70 GT500. But there appears to be a piece missing that goes below that snorkle. Some sort of tube or duct? There is a lower mounted piece, just nothing btwn that lower piece and the snorkle? What am I missing and where can I get that part? Tks

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Wiring in trunk
September 25, 2022, 02:04:42 PM
I need som help understanding wiring in my 70 GT 500 trunk area. 1) there is a single wire coming from fuel indicator in gas tank, that has a male end on it and there is about 12" of it into the trunk. There is no other wire even close to it to plug into. Is something missing? See 1st photo. 2) over on left side there is a single short wire with female end, a two wire less with a typical male/female connector, and then a bunch of wires going in a black plastic box. See 2nd picture. Is the single wire for the fuel indicator wire? There is no electric antenna motor. Just that tube you can see in the picture. Is the 2 wire lead intended for an electric antenna motor? Did all Shelby's come with electric antenna motors? And what is the black box? 3) I think I'm missing some type of floor in my trunk? See 3rd picture and other pictures. I would think there should be something protecting the gas tank.
Comments and advise please?

I'm replacing both gauges in my 70 GT500 console. The o/p gauges is aftermarket and the alternator gauges looks to be original. Banda only sells them as a pair. The current o/p gauge has the plastic pressure line into it, and the Banda original replacement is an electric o/p so it needs two wires that the current one doesn't. I'm finding two unconnected wires with post type ends taped up in that area. One is a single wire coming in thru a single wire connector, and that wire is black/green. The other comes in thru one of the four wire connectors, and that wire is white/red. Any advice about what I'm seeing? Which wire goes where?

I looked around where the current plastic o/p line goes into the block, just above the filter, and I'm not finding any unconnected wire that would have been connected to an original electric sending unit. I did see a harness going across the intake on that side, with two wires coming out. One wire went to the coil and the other wire went to the water temp sensor. I unraveled that harness and found a third wire that had been cut. It is white/red. But, those three wires go into a three wire connector between the engine and the firewall, and the wire across from the white/red wire is solid yellow. Any ideas about that? That connector looks original.

Finally, the fan switch doesn't work. Coming off the fan switch there is a solid green wire about 4'" long with a plastic female connector on it that is not connected to anything. Should it be? In the same area there is a similar solid green wire with the same type plastic female connector, which goes into a harness, and that wire is also not connected. Should it be?

Tks for taking the time to read all of this. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

I need a new set screw for the automatic shift handle on my 70 GT 500. I just spent an hour at hardware store and we tried every size they had. Nothing would thread in. I still have my old set screw and it goes in fine. I want to try a longer one to firm up the handle. Anyone know what the correct size is?

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Engine verification
July 28, 2022, 02:35:32 PM
I have a 70 GT500 drag pack. It now has the smaller crank pulley, so at least the original 428SCJ crank and lemans rods have been removed. I'm hoping somewhere along the path, someone just rebuilt the engine and replaced the rods and crank and pulley to shed that weight. Maybe the rest is still original. I've read that the only difference between a 428CJ and 428SCJ are the rods, crank, and pulley. I'd like to restore the engine to a 428SCJ if the rest of it is original. How do I go about determining if the rest of the engine is original? Where do I look? What am I looking for?

The car does have the oil cooler in front of the radiator support.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / 1970 GT500 gauges
June 27, 2022, 08:48:31 PM
Where can I buy original style replacement gauges for the 2 round gauges in the console in a 1970 GT500? Mine don't appear original. Certainly don't match. Anybody change out the ammeter to a voltmeter or replace with a temp gauge?

Also, my gas gauge suddenly went inop.  What would be common causes of that to check?

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Radiator Choice
June 06, 2022, 04:53:33 PM
I want to put an aluminum radiator and electric fan in my '70 GT 500. It has an AT. I live in east Texas and it's just too dang hot here in the summer. I'm tired of watching that temp gauge creep over to H! I'm curious what results folks have had with various brands? There is an endless list of choices. What should I be looking for, and which brands are the best at keeping my engine cool? Tks.
